NCAA Football Betting Preview Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Virginia Cavaliers

One of the critical games during rivalry week in terms of the playoff is this Crimson Tide vs. Auburn matchup which seems to be an opportunity for Alabama to put up a big win against a rather underwhelming Tigers side. Just a quick

The Virginia Tech Hokies look to finish off the season with a .500 record when they travel to Scott Stadium for their rivalry week matchup with the Virginia Cavaliers. The Virginia Tech Hokies bring a solid defense that likely will prove to be their key unit should they have any success in this one, as their offense hasn’t been able to get it done this year.

This may be the rare situation where they can put up 30+, though, as the Cavaliers have allowed opponents to pretty much do whatever they want on offense for the majority of the year. Why do the Cavaliers have a winning record? It is all about an offense putting up well over 500 yards per game with serious prowess in the passing attack, which has averaged over 390 yards per game coming into Saturday’s game.

Virginia Tech Hokies Betting Preview:

Virginia Tech did some things well in their last game against the Miami Hurricanes, but a key turnover and a big game from Tyler van Dyke and Charleston Rambo proved to be too much as they dropped that one 38-26. This team does seem to have the ability to step up in big spots, though, as they have played two ranked opponents this year, beating North Carolina and losing a heartbreaker against Notre Dame, so I would not be surprised to see the very best of the Hokies in this one.

This year, Braxton Burmeister has been capable at the QB position for Virginia Tech with 3 TD’s to 4 picks and 1819 yards passing. However, he has not exactly finished the season all that well with just one big performance in his last 5 games, which came against Georgia Tech, where he had 254 yards passing and 2 TD’s. He can have a big game against a weak defense here, so it will be interesting how he fairs in this spot.

If Virginia Tech wins this game, I still think it comes by way of their defense, who has been solid for most of the year, and they really could force some turnovers against the Cavaliers and turn this game on it’s head. Look out specifically for Jermaine Waller, who already has 4 interceptions this season and could prove key again.

Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview:

The Cavaliers  have lost their last 3 games in a row, and while that sucks, it did come against 3 ranked opponents, so they are getting a bit of class relief here. Virginia did do a lot well in their last game against the Pitt Panthers, but they had absolutely no answer for Jordan Addison, who went nuclear against them for 202 yards and 4 TD’s. The Cavaliers’ number one pass catcher Dontayvion Wicks also had a nice game for himself during that one going for 144 yards, bringing his season stat totals to 1148 yards and 9 touchdowns. It is a tough matchup for him against a Hokies defense who has been able to limit pass catchers this year, but his talent may prove too much for a talented defense on the other side of this.

Brennan Armstrong has most of the onus for this offense on his shoulders, as this Cavaliers team has not really been able to get the running game going. Armstrong has proven to be excellent, throwing for 4044 yards and 30 touchdowns to 9 INT’s, which is not all that bad considering how often he has the ball in his hands. Much like his number one receiver, he gets the same tough matchup, so it will be a good test for him to finish off the season.

Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Virginia Cavaliers Betting Lines & Odds

I know it’s rivalry week, and everything and these guys are going to be pumped up, but this is just not enough points. I dThe side is very tough here, as the Hokies certainly have the better defense and are getting 7 points, but you do also feel that the Cavaliers are the superior team. The total does look good here, though, as I cannot see the Cavs getting shut down on offense, and the Hokies offense should be able to do whatever they want in an A+ matchup. I would look for this one to have points early and often and for this one to get over the 63.5 point total in the end.
