NFL Betting Preview Steelers vs. Chiefs – January 16, 2022

The Pittsburgh Steelers (9-7-1) head to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the Kansas City Chiefs (12-5) in the wild card round of the AFC playoffs. Both teams picked up wins in the regular-season finale that propelled them into the playoffs. The Steelers have won four of their last six contests, while the Chiefs have one of the best offenses in the league. That being said, this should be a solid first-round matchup.

Pittsburgh Steelers Betting Preview: Ben Roethlisberger’s Retirement Extended at Least One More Week

The Steelers clinched a playoff spot and the seventh overall seed with a season finale win over their division rival Baltimore 16-13. They will have an uphill battle against the defending AFC champions as they come into the matchup double-digit underdogs.

After a poor 1-3 start to the season, the Steelers have been able to turn it around, winning three of their last four contests. Pittsburgh will be tested against Patrick Mahomes and a high-powered Chiefs offense; however, the defense is led by Pro Bowler T.J. Watt and Cam Hayward, who have combined forc32.5 sacks. Additionally, the unit has forced 20 takeaways on the year and conceded 361.1 yards and 23.4 points per game.

Big Ben willed his team into the playoffs with his fifth fourth-quarter comeback of the year, and this could be potentially his last game in a football uniform. Roethlisberger finished the season with 22 touchdowns and 3.740 yards passing. Pittsburgh also showcases one of the top rookies in the league, Najee Harris, a running back who has produced the fourth-most rushing yards in the league (1,200) and seven touchdowns. Overall, the offensive unit is averaging 315.4 yards and just 20.4 points per game.

Kansas City Chiefs Betting Preview: Chiefs Look to Defend AFC Title

Kansas City will begin their playoff push at home after locking in the number two seed with a win over the Broncos. The offense has been this team’s calling card as they finished third in total offense averaging almost 400 yards a game and 28.2 points. Patrick Mahomes finished second in league with 4,839 passing yards and third in touchdowns 37.

Also leading the offense is the running back tandem of Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Darrell Williams. Both running backs have combined for over 1,000 yards and ten touchdowns in 2021. Meanwhile, the receiving corps is just as star-studded with Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill, totaling nine touchdowns each.

Defensively, it’s a different story as the defense has conceded a 27th ranked 368.9 yards per game and 251.4 yards through the air. Despite this, the Chiefs have 29 takeaways on the year (5th) and are conceding just 21.4 points per game.

The Chiefs absolutely destroyed the Steelers in their last matchup in week 13, and I don’t see the Steelers found a way to overcome their shortcomings to upset Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium. Despite winning four of their last six contests, the Steelers’ offense averages just 20.4 points per game, while the Chiefs have 28+ points in their last five games.

Additionally, the Steelers are 0-3 ATS when double-digit underdogs this season, while the Chiefs are 9-1 ATS in their last ten contests. Pittsburgh has some nice young stars, but the Chiefs are on a mission to redeem themselves after coming up short in last year’s Super Bowl. Back the Chiefs.
