NFL Betting Preview Panthers vs. Buccaneers – January 9, 2022

The Carolina Panthers (5-11) head to Raymond James Stadium for the final game of the regular season when they square off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (12-4). In week 17, the Panthers fell to Saints 18-10, while the Bucs took down the Jets 28-24.

The Panthers have been completely eliminated from the playoffs. However, they are still figuring out their quarterback situation, while the Bucs are fighting for the number two overall seed in the NFC playoffs. Let’s check out how these two teams stack up.

Carolina Panthers Betting Preview: Questions at Quarterback for Carolina

The Carolina Panthers have to endure one more game after this tumultuous season, where they can go into the offseason and evaluate exactly what they have and what they need to get better at. On the offensive end, the Panthers are trying to figure out whether or not they have a franchise quarterback in Sam Darnold, but there haven’t been many questions on the defensive end.

The Panthers gave Sam Darnold the start in their last outing, and his results have been consistent… Consistently bad, that is, as Darnold finished with just 132 yards through the air while turning the ball over twice. However, he didn’t get much help as the offensive line allowed seven sacks on the night. Additionally, the offense mustered just ten points and accumulated 178 total yards. It hasn’t been pretty, and something needs to be done on the offensive side of the ball.

Defensively, the unit has been one of the best in the league this year, and they played like that again against the Saints holding New Orleans under 300 yards and conceding just 18 points. They didn’t record any turnovers, but the unit held the Saints to 5/13 on third downs and gave the offense a chance to win games. Overall, they rank second in the league allowing just 299.5 yards, and are conceding 22.7 points per contest.

Tampa Bay Bucs Betting Preview: Brady Leads Bucs to 12th Win in Come From Behind Victory

For the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tom Brady pulled out some more magic out of his helmet as he led the Buccaneers to a come-from-behind victory. The Buccaneers have clinched the NFC South and are hoping for more with a win that could possibly give them the number two seed in the playoffs. Tom Brady will play in his 13th straight postseason as the offense continues to flourish, collecting 467 yards of offense, including 405 from Brady.

The Buccaneers matched a franchise record for victories when they secured their Sunday’s 12th win of the season. Tampa Bay had a tough time defending the Jets early as they conceded 150 yards on the ground and two scores and were limited to one sack and one turnover on the night. Despite this, they only conceded 24 points to the Jets and allowed Tom Brady to drive down the field when they stuffed a QB sneak in the fourth quarter with a minute remaining. Overall, the defense ranks 14th in total yards allowed (332.4) and concedes just 21 points per game.

The spread is just way too big in this one. The Carolina Panthers may not have the most competent or lethal offense, but the defense is elite and will keep the Panthers in this one. Additionally, the Jets kept Tom Brady and the offense in check for most of the game, and I think they’ll have a tougher time with less weapons in the final week of the regular season.

Although the Buccaneers are 5-2 ATS as home favorites this year, they are just 6-5 after a win ATS. The Buccaneers will want to win, but Panthers coach Matt Rhule is fighting for his job on the other side, and they’ll want to finish off the regular season strong. I like the Panthers to cover in this one.
