NFL Betting Preview: Falcons vs. Panthers

An NFC South battle takes place Sunday when the Carolina Panthers (3-4) take on the Atlanta Falcons (3-3) at Mercedes Benz Stadium in week eight NFL action. The Panthers lost embarrassingly to the New York Giants 25-3, while the Atlanta Falcons stole a win from the Dolphins 30-28.

This matchup will feature the bottom two teams in the NFC South division. Both teams are very much alive in this race, and the winner could determine the real playoff contender. This should be a fun one to watch, so let’s dive into this matchup and take a look at both teams to help you place the best bets come Sunday!

Carolina Panthers Betting Preview: Darnold Benched in Fourth Straight Loss

The Panthers dropped their fourth straight contest last Sunday, this time to one of the worst teams in the league in the Giants. Not only that, the Panthers could only muster three points.

The offense was so bad Matt Rhule benched Sam Darnold in favor of P.J. Walker, who was even worse. The Panther offense just hasn’t looked as dynamic without Christian McCaffrey, as the offense converted two of their 15 third downs.

Darnold is still the starter but has turned the ball over constantly with seven interceptions in his last four games. For that reason, the defense has been under a lot of pressure.

The inability to move the ball on offense forces the defense to absorb blows constantly. The defense has allowed 29 points per game during their four-game losing streak and will look to get back in the win column against the Falcons mediocre offense.

Atlanta Falcons Betting Preview: Falcons Back to .500 and Kyle Pitts Shines

The Falcons overcame a blown fourth-quarter lead last week with a late field goal victory against the Miami Dolphins. The game’s story is the development of Kyle Pitts; the first-round tight-end had another breakout game reeling in 163 yards on eight catches. Pitts has contributed back-to-back games of 119+ yards and averaged 23.3 yards per catch against the Dolphins.

The Falcons have rattled off three out of their last four wins, and the offense is starting to heat up. Over the previous three games, the offense has averaged 29 points. Matt Ryan has also finished with two or more touchdowns in five straight games.

Atlanta’s defense needs some work after allowing 29.3 games through the first seven weeks of the season. The defensive unit survived a tough game when they blew the lead late in the fourth quarter, but secured two critical interceptions against Tua Tagovailoa that led to the winning drive for the Falcons.

This season, the Panthers have had their ups and downs but have a strong coaching foundation in Matt Rhule. Be that as it may, the offense is just not the same without Christian McCaffrey in the backfield.

Atlanta’s offense is underrated, and Arthur Smith and the Falcons have rattled off three wins in their last four games. With Atlanta playing at home, I think they hand the Panthers their fifth straight loss.
