NFL Betting Preview Colts vs. 49ers

The Indianapolis Colts (2-4) will head west to take on the San Francisco 49ers (2-3) at Levi Stadium for a week seven showdown on Sunday Night Football. In week six, the Colts are coming off a strong performance when they crushed the Texans at home 31-3. Meanwhile, the 49ers got an extra week to prepare coming off their bye and should be well rested after a tough loss to the Cardinals 17-10 in week five.

This will be an exciting matchup between two teams trying to stay in contention in their respective divisions. Both teams view this as a must-win game, so there should be some fireworks, so let’s check out this matchup!

Indianapolis Colts Betting Preview: Colts look to build off momentum against 49ers

The Indianapolis Colts will go on the road after successfully coming together on both sides of the ball. After fighting for their first win against the Dolphins and taking the Ravens to overtime, the Colts put together a 31-point performance and held the Texans to just three points in week six.

The Colts offense exploded for a season-high 31 points last week, including 397 yards of total offense. Carson Wentz led the way throwing two touchdown passes, but Jonathan Taylor put the team on his back, recording 158 yards and two scores. The running back ripped off an 83-yard run, averaged 10.7 yards per carrying in week six, and has found the end zone five times in three games.

Indy’s defense was equally impressive, putting pressure on rookie quarterback Davis Mills and holding the Houston offense to a measly three total points. The defense made some huge plays, including an interception by Darius Leonard and Isaiah Rodgers, while Leonard also forced a fumble. Leonard has been the catalyst on defense, recording at least one takeaway in four straight games.

San Francisco 49ers Betting Preview: 49ers look to break losing streak in a must-win game

The San Francisco 49ers come into this matchup having lost three straight games and have added drama with a quarterback controversy. QB health has been a recurring issue within the franchise in recent years, and Jimmy Garoppolo has missed 24 of 53 starts since joining the 49ers, which opened the door for Trey Lance to see his first start in the NFL last week.

The rookie quarterback turned in an uneven performance completing 52% of his passes; however, he did lead the team in rushing yards with 89. Lance’s athleticism was definitely on display with his running abilities, but his inexperience also showed with some late reads and missed throws that led to an interception.

Jimmy Garoppolo hasn’t done poorly, leading the 49ers to their only two wins, but he is under a microscope and a lot of pressure with the fan base and Trey Lance on his heels. The veteran has five touchdowns in 2021 and a quarterback rating of 96.9. He’ll look to lead the offense back on track against the Colts.

The 49er defense was nothing short of fantastic against the Arizona Cardinals in week five. The 49ers are the only team to hold the Cardinals under 30 points and 400 yards this season. The defensive front somehow held Kyler Murray to one rushing yard and got to him twice in the pocket for sacks. The 49ers’ defense will look to spearhead a bounce back with the offense continuing to struggle.

This is a must-win game for both teams, and I think this comes down to who has more to play for. On the one hand, Carson Wentz and Frank Reich are under some pressure with a slow start, but the Colts seem to be clicking at the right time and could start to push the Titans for the division lead.

On the other hand, Jimmy Garoppolo and Kyle Shanahan are receiving a ton of heat with a championship-caliber team that hasn’t performed to their capabilities on offense. I believe the 49ers have to come out guns blazing if they want to compete for a playoff spot in the NFC.

With that being said, I like the 49ers to bounce back in this matchup. With an extra week of rest and the luxury of playing at home, I think Kyle Shanahan finds a way to get his team back in the win column. Take the 49ers
