An NFC showdown takes place when the Carolina Panthers take on the Arizona Cardinals for a week ten battle at State Farm Stadium. The Panthers dropped an ugly contest to the Patriots 24-6, while the Cardinals pummeled the 49ers on the road 31-17.
These teams are trending in opposite directions as the Panthers dropped to last place in the NFC South, while the Cardinals have sole possession of first in the NFC West. Arizona is dealing with some injuries, and Carolina is looking to recapture the magic that won them the year’s first three games. Let’s check out how these two teams stack up against each other.
Carolina Panthers Betting Preview: Offensive Woes Continue For Darnold and Offense
The Panthers’ offense couldn’t find the end zone for the second time in the last three games. Sam Darnold has been disastrous at quarterback for the Panthers, tossing three more interceptions last Sunday.
Coming into week ten, Sam Darnold is tied for first in interceptions (11), tied for 28th in passing touchdowns (7), and 29th in total QBR (35.8). In addition, the young signal-caller has tossed ten interceptions in his last six games, and that’s not going to cut it in the NFL.
The good news is they got one of their best players back in Christian McCaffrey. The running back is a difference-maker, picking up 100 scrimmage yards against the Patriots and should help the offense get going.
The defense, on the other hand, has been solid all season. Although they couldn’t contain the rushing attack of the Patriots last weekend, the defense has been stout, ranking second in the league, conceding an average of 293.1 yards per game to opponents. The Panthers also picked off Mac Jones, creating their tenth takeaways of the year. They’ll need to make plays against a tough Cardinal team.
Arizona Cardinals Betting Preview: No Kyler, No Problem
The injury-riddled Cardinals made no excuses last Sunday as they crushed the 49ers in an “upset” victory without the services of Kyler Murray, J.J. Watt, and DeAndre Hopkins. Colt McCoy was lights out for the Cardinals; the backup completed 85% of his passes, along with one touchdown.
The Cardinals rushing attack has been a surprise this year. Last time out against a strong 49er defense, the Cardinals were able to dominate the trenches picking up 163 yards and three touchdowns. The balanced offense has been a major factor in their ability to score as the Cardinals collected their seventh 30 point game of the season.
On the defensive side of the ball, Chandler Jones set the Cardinals franchise sack record with his 67th sack while recording his sixth sack of the season. The defense has been nasty, creating three takeaways against Kyle Shanahan and the 49er offense while sacking Jimmy Garoppolo five times. The defensive front has wreaked havoc on opponents leading them to winning their fifth straight game on the road.

The Cardinals continue to find ways to win and it’s hard to bet against this gritty group. With the odds stacked against them, backup quarterback Colt McCoy sliced and diced a solid 49er defensive unit, while the rushing attack ran it down the Niners’ throats for three touchdowns.
The Panthers are just trending in the wrong direction and they’ll have to go on the road to take one from arguably the best team in the NFC. There might be a quarterback change with Darnold’s atrocious play so far in 2021, and I expect him to be on a short leash if they are unable to get things going early. The Cardinals are just too talented and should get some reinforcements coming in week ten.
