NFL Betting Preview Broncos vs. Chargers – January 2, 2022

The Denver Broncos (7-8) head to SoFi Stadium as they square off against the Los Angeles Chargers (8-7) for an AFC West matchup in week 17 of the regular season. Both teams entered this contest with a loss last week, with the Broncos falling to the Raiders at home 17-13, while the Chargers were upset by the Texans 41-29 in Houston.

Denver Broncos Betting Preview: Vic Fangio On Hot Seat

Denver’s season might be over after their loss to the Raiders. On a positive note, the Broncos’ defense had an excellent showing last week when they forced three turnovers, including a big interception by Bradley Chubb that set up a one-yard rushing touchdown for the offense. That’s just one example of how elite the defense has been all year.

Denver ranks sixth in total defense, giving up just 320.9 yards per contest, and they also lead the league in scoring defense as they concede a minuscule 17.3 points per game. Be that as it may, the Broncos’ defense can only keep the team in the game for so long as the offense has been incompetent in 2021.

The offense scored an uninspiring 13 points and totaled just 158 yards against the Raiders. The rushing attack had their worst performance of the year as they totaled just 18 yards, and Drew Lock didn’t do much as he mustered 153 yards in the loss. The offense finished 1/10, and to make matters worse, they could be without Teddy Bridgewater for the rest of the season.

Los Angeles Chargers Betting Preview: Chargers Must Win Out To Have Shot at Playoffs

Last week, Los Angeles suffered a horrible loss where the Texans outplayed them. The Chargers dropped their second straight game and are now in jeopardy of missing the playoffs.

The Chargers have one of the best young offenses in the league, led by Justin Herbert. The Bolts have been strong all year and posted 29 points in the loss to Houston, posting 417 total yards. However, some ill-advised throws from Herbert led to two interceptions that set the Texans up with great field position. Despite this, Los Angeles fans shouldn’t be concerned as they rank fourth in yards per game (390.2) and are scoring 27.2 points per game.

The real problem for the Chargers is their inconsistent defense. The Bolts haven’t been able to stop the run all year, and they conceded 189 yards o the ground to one of the worst teams in the league. Additionally, the rushing defense has conceded over 140 yards per game and allowed Rookie quarterback Davis Mills to throw for 254 yards and two scores. Brandon Staley and the defense need to come up with answers quickly.

The Chargers have been really inconsistent, going toe to toe with some of the best teams in the league and falling to weaker competition. Los Angeles is an ugly 3-6 as the favorite this year and just 3-5 as the home team.

The Broncos have been just as disappointing, particularly on offense, where they average just 19.9 points per game. Although their defense is elite, they have absolutely nothing to play for, and the players are losing respect for their head coach Vic Fangio. Expect Brandon Staley to put out all the stops against the Broncos.
