The Virginia Tech Hokies head to Hard Rock Stadium this Saturday in an effort to pull off the upset against the Miami Hurricanes, who will look to bounce back after a tough loss to their in-state rivals, the Florida State Seminoles. Virginia Tech will not make it easy on the home team to defend their turf, though, as the visitors could not have been more impressive in their matchup with the Duke Blue Devils winning that one 48-17.
Virginia Tech Hokies Betting Preview:
Virginia Tech did not take their foot off the pedal in that last game with Duke, leading that one from start to finish behind an excellent rushing performance from Blackshear, King, and Burmeister. At the QB position, Burmeister did not have to do a lot in that one completing just nine passes in the win.
It did not turn out to be an awful performance as 3 of those nine completions went for touchdowns in one of his more efficient games of the season. This will be a much tougher matchup for the junior signal-caller, but he has shown enough with his arm and his legs to think he may be up for the challenge here.
Virginia Tech will come into this game with a defensive advantage in terms of overall yards allowed, but they have to be worried about this front seven, who have been gashed at times by opposing runners to the tune of 186 yards per game. However, do not look for much in the passing game for Miami, as this secondary has been elite and is undoubtedly the best individual unit on this team.
Miami Hurricanes Betting Preview:
It does not get a whole lot worse for the Miami Hurricanes than what happened to them in their last game against the Seminoles, as their win expectancy was over 90% late into that game before a big play with just 2 minutes left got the Seminoles into Hurricanes territory, and the rest was history.
Tyler Van Dyke did absolutely everything for the Hurricanes in that game, throwing for 316 yards and four touchdowns, but his two picks proved to be costly. Van Dyke has been great this year, and especially lately, with passing totals of 316, 389, 426, 325 in his last four games. I am sure he will be highly motivated to bounce back quickly after that final loss, but a very tough matchup awaits this Saturday.
The more likely scenario in this game is that they win this game by going with a run-heavy approach, which would mean that the star of this one is probably going to be Jaylan Knighton. Knighton is a freshman RB who has looked good this year, running for 493 yards and 5 TD’s, and he is another guy looking for a bounceback gaining just 32 yards on 16 attempts in that last game. He gets the A+ matchup in this spot against this Hokies front 7, so it will be interesting to see if he can take advantage of this opportunity.
Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Miami Hurricanes Betting Lines & Odds
I am worried about this Hokies secondary, but I do think the Hurricanes will come to play in this one and think they will take care of business here and cover the 7-point spread. They should be able to have plenty of success running the ball, and hopefully, that opens something up on the back end of the secondary.
The Hurricanes were absolutely rolling before that last loss, too, with three straight wins, with 2 of them being against ranked opponents, which is something that can’t really be said about the Hokies. Miami easily played well enough to win that FSU game, and I do get the feeling if they did win that game, this spread would be pushing 10, so there is some line value here, in my opinion.
