NCAA Football Betting Preview Rebels vs. Tigers

A battle of ranked opponents takes place this Saturday, as the Ole Miss Rebels head out on the road to take on the Auburn Tigers at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Alabama. Saturday’s visitors are no joke, as the schedule makers have not done them any favors, and they come into this contest with just a sole loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide, so the Auburn Tigers will need to bring their absolute best to send the home crowd home happy.

Auburn has not looked quite as good as Ole Miss this year when you consider their entire season and strength of schedule, but they do look to be in good form right now, coming off of a win against the Arkansas Razorbacks in their last game.

Ole Miss Rebels Betting Preview:

The Ole Miss Rebels need to be taken seriously, considering they ride a three-game winning streak coming into this game, with those three wins coming against Tennessee, LSU, and Arkansas. Ole Miss has a problem, though, as their defense does not look like they are in a good spot here, giving up over 420 total yards per game during the 2021 campaign. However, they did show up in their last game, holding LSU to just 17 points, but it is tough to see a repeat of that performance here on the road in Auburn.

The good part is the Ole Miss offense, which has been one of the most electric in all of college football, putting up 541.1 yards per game. The most dangerous thing about this offense is that they have managed to strike an outstanding balance between the passing game and the running game, which really opens things up for Matt Corral at QB.

Speaking of Matt Corral, he will undoubtedly give the Rebels the advantage at QB this Saturday, and his season really has been nuts throwing for 1913 yards and owning a 15-1 TD to INT ratio. If he can put it all together here and play well against a tough Tigers defense, he will likely be the favorite for the Heisman Trophy come Sunday morning.

Auburn Tigers Betting Preview:

As was just alluded to, the Tigers are much more of a defensive-oriented team who likes to take shots downfield, but primarily relies on the run. The Tigers’ defense is not made up of a couple of superstars who will make the NFL, but they instead get the job done with solid all-around players and pretty crazy depth on that side of the ball. The linebacking tandem of McClain and Wooten is definitely worth keeping your eye on, as they try and deal with this Rebels offense who has not been slowed by many this year.

The Auburn Tigers also have a decent quarterback in their own right with Bo Nix, who continues to play at a high-level throwing for almost 1500 yards and only throwing 2 picks all season. He is better set up to have a big game here, as opposed to Corral, so it will be interesting to see if he can take advantage of this opportunity.

Betting Lines & Odds

The bookmakers have this line listed as Auburn -3, which means they believe these two teams are about even. That makes some sense, as the Rebels have the advantage on the offensive side of the ball while the Tigers undoubtedly have a significant defensive advantage.

Picking a side in this one is quite tough, as you feel this one could come down to a late score or a field goal which would make me lean towards the Rebels, but I just think that Tigers defense is going to be able to slow the Rebels down enough with that big home crowd behind them so that I would lean with the home team ATS.

The bet I would be making on this game would have to do with the total, as I just think 66.5 is a touch high and think this Tigers defense will show up.
