NCAA Football Betting Preview Nittany Lions vs. Buckeyes

The Ohio State Buckeyes will look to continue pushing towards the college football playoff this Saturday, as they welcome the Penn State Nittany Lions to Ohio Stadium. It has to be said; it looks like Ohio State is getting the Nittany Lions at the right time, as Saturday’s visitors enter this game off of back-to-back losses against Illinois and Iowa. Ohio State could not look any better either in their last few games, recording blowout after blowout, even if the competition were not amazing.

Penn State Nittany Lions Betting Preview:

It really does not get a whole lot more heartbreaking than Penn State’s last loss, as it took 9 OTs to settle their game with Illinois, which ended up being an NCAA first. However, they only have themselves to blame for that one, as they went into that home game as 24.5 point favorites and simply did not show up and certainly did not deserve to win.

They only managed to gain 227 total yards in that one and were the beneficiary of 3 turnovers from Illinois. Hence, the Fighting Illini did everything to try and give that game to Penn State, and the Nittany Lions simply could not capitalize.

Sean Clifford has been decent at the QB position this year. Still, it is just tough for me to imagine him going into what is sure to be a brutal atmosphere and putting up a stat-line that propels this team to victory especially considering the insane talent on the other side of the field. The onus for the offense will be solely on his shoulders, though, as I simply can’t imagine this running game doing much at all here on Saturday.

Ohio State Buckeyes Betting Preview:

The Ohio State Buckeyes have looked like one of college football’s best over the last month or so, as they have just been trucking everyone in their way. CJ Stroud is now one of the top contenders for the Heisman with nearly 2000 passing yards and a stellar-looking 22-3 TD to pick ratio. The scariest thing about this team is that they have one of the best defensive units in the country and a stellar offense, so it is tough to see where a team like Penn State can expose them.

As you can probably already tell from reading this article, I think Ohio State wins and wins big, so I would look out for freshman TreVeyon Henderson to have a big one from the running back position. I fully expect the Buckeyes to get up early here, and they will start churning some of that clock utilizing the running backs, which is good news for Henderson’s stats.

Betting Lines & Odds

I already kind of spilled the beans about this one, but I love Ohio State in this spot even though we have to lay a big number doing it. The -18.5 would scare me much more if this is on the road, but with this team having so much to play for, I see them getting the job done in a big way here.

The total is also interesting, as I can certainly imagine Ohio State reverting to the run plenty and this defense standing up and stopping Penn State in a big way. This total is currently listed at 61, which I think is also a bit high considering what I think the Nittany Lions will score in this one.

At the end of the day, though, the best bet in this one is Ohio State ATS, with the real possibility being that they just let Stroud go crazy here in an effort to both boost their college playoff stock and their QB’s stock in terms of the Heisman.
