The Texas Bowl is likely to surprise no matter which way it goes, as there are many moving parts between both of these squads, which can make it very tough to predict who will come out victorious. LSU must be happy to see Joe Burrow having so much success at the NFL level, but it is becoming more and more apparent the gaping hole he left at that QB position when he left with this Tigers team finishing up the season with a 6-6 record. On the other hand, Kansas State actually looked quite strong down the stretch of the season even though they lost the last two games of the season.
It will be important to keep an eye on news here, as LSU has been hit by the virus as well as several departures, so we should be seeing plenty of new faces for the Tigers this Tuesday. Kansas State luckily does not have that problem, as they are essentially back to full strength for this one, and that alone makes it tough to disagree with their status as favorite for the TaxAct Texas Bowl.
LSU Tigers Betting Preview:
Brian Kelly has not quite taken the reins of this program yet, so Brad Davis will be in charge for this one coming over from his duties as offensive line coach. He has an uphill battle here, though, and that starts at the QB position with Max Johnson deciding to transfer before this game. There is another caveat to this situation, as the LSU Tigers are unlikely to sacrifice a year of eligibility for backup QB Garrett Nussmeier which leaves the Tigers with a big problem here. That should mean that the Tigers focus on the ground game here, but that will only get you so far, and the Wildcats front 7 is not exactly soft either.
The upside with this LSU squad is that it is deep with plenty of talent among the underclassmen, so just because they are missing key pieces does not mean they will get beaten here. The one thing the Tigers should be able to lean on here is their defense which was quite good this season, and the losses on that side of the ball should be at least slightly easier to replace. The defense does get a good matchup here as well, as the Kansas State offense was not exactly electric this year, so if they can manage to cause some turnovers here, they can really put this team in a position to win.
Kansas State Wildcats Betting Preview:
Kansas State is a lot more impressive to me than a lot of other college football fans, as I have been more impressed with them in their losses than maybe some others have been. I have been particularly impressed with this defense, which has been seriously good this season, allowing only 348 total yards per game. They were also able to hang with the likes of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, which is far different competition than they will encounter in this one.
The issue has been the offense that has looked downright bad at times, with Skylar Thompson hopefully making a bigger impact here in his return. If he can help get this Wildcats offense going just a little bit, they will not have too many problems beating this version of the LSU Tigers. One issue for the offense here is that their leading rusher Tyrion Davis-Price has left the team in preparation for the NFL Draft, so that is a significant loss considering how much this team depends on their running game.
LSU Tigers vs. Kansas State Wildcats Betting Prediction:
Kansas State does look like the side to take in this spot, as it looks like there might be some hope for this passing attack, and like I said, if that gets going, the Tigers are cooked in this spot. I do get the feeling this one might be more competitive than we think, however, and would prefer to look towards the total here, which looks to be offering quite a bit more value. This total currently sits at 48, which is simply too high for a game with two talented defenses and two programs that will look to pound the rock. Look for all that running to keep the clock ticking and for this one to stay under the total in what is likely a tight Wildcats victory.
