NCAA Football Betting Preview Bulldogs vs. Crimson Tide

The SEC championship game awaits this Saturday, and even though it is a matchup we are used to seeing, it is not the Crimson Tide who will be favored in this one. The Georgia Bulldogs will enter as 6.5 point favorites, and given the way the Bulldogs have looked and Alabama’s recent struggles; it could be argued that that is not close to enough in terms of the spread. Nevertheless, all eyes will be focused on the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, for what could be a memorable affair.

Georgia Bulldogs Betting Preview:

The Bulldogs have looked absolutely fantastic this season, and it is very tough to poke holes in this team, especially on the defensive side of the ball. This is the best defense in the country, only allowing 230.4 total yards on the season, and shockingly they have only allowed 78.9 rushing yards per game, so that front 7 is nothing short of ferocious.

Even though it was against an easier opponent, this defense got to flex some serious muscle last time out against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets as they pitched a shutout. They held the Yellow Jackets to just 166 total yards and only 9 first downs, and while I don’t expect anything close to that in this game against Alabama, it might be a very long day for this Crimson Tide offensive line.

The Bulldogs offense mostly goes through the run game with Zamir White leading the way with 691 yards and 10 touchdowns. The best thing for Georgia is that they have 3 or 4 running backs that they can run out there, so they will always have fresh legs, and that could make it tough on the Alabama D-line. Stetson Bennett at the QB position has been decent enough with 1985 passing yards and 21 TDs to only 5 interceptions. He will face a really tough Crimson Tide defense on the other side of it, so this will be a good test for him under the bright lights.

Brock Bowers will likely make an impact here, as he has been a real red-zone threat this year with 10 TD’s and having a tight end like him, in a game like this, can be invaluable because he can be the difference between a field goal and a touchdown.

Alabama Crimson Tide Betting Preview:

While things are pretty simple on the other side of this game, the same thing cannot be said about the Alabama Crimson Tide, who are a bit of a wreck at the moment. They have the name recognition, but even Nick Saban has been talking down expectations for this squad, and that was apparent in their last game as it was frankly hard to watch at times.

It seemed like the Crimson Tide did everything in their power to let Auburn win that last game, with the road team eventually winning that one 24-22. That was one of the most incredible comebacks I have ever seen, as the Auburn Tigers had a 99.9% probability of winning that game, and they somehow managed to blow it.

The main problem for Alabama in that game was the O-line, as Bryce Young was under constant fire, and the running game just could not get going. Specifically, it was the right side of that offensive line, so we will have to see whether or not Nick Saban has come up with a solution for that problem because the Bulldogs will no doubt be relentless.

Georgia Bulldogs vs. Alabama Crimson Tide Betting Lines & Odds

I do feel like a square making this pick, but I just can’t see past this Bulldogs team and can easily see them winning this one by more than a touchdown. I can’t see this Alabama running game really getting going, and everything is going to open up for the Bulldogs defense, specifically, that pass rush which can get home plenty in this spot.

Although I doubt it’s the “sharp” side, I like Georgia here in a route leaning on that incredible defense and running game which should be giving the Bulldogs a huge advantage in terms of the time of possession.
