NBA Betting Preview Nuggets vs. Warriors – December 28th, 2021

The Golden State Warriors just keep on winning despite injuries, health and safety protocols, and any other challenge they face. Can they keep their 3-game win streak alive when the Nuggets come to town? Find out below.

Denver Nuggets Betting Preview:

The Denver Nuggets are not having a very good season. The team is hovering around a .500 record, and injuries have completely decimated their hopes for a championship this season. Jamal Murray will return eventually, so they might pose a bit of a threat in the postseason, especially if Jokic continues playing this well, but anything more than that seems unlikely. Everything starts with Jokic, who is playing an even better season than last year. He is playing one of the best seasons in recent memory, showing people his MVP was not won by chance. He is also showing a lot more emotion on the court as well due to the lack of consistent winning resulting in multiple ejections.

The Nuggets are an average team by pretty much every metric. They rarely go on winning streaks or losing streaks. They are 5-5 in their last 10, with the team ranking as an average offensive team trending downward, and that’s with Jokic taking on a very heavy scoring load. The bright side could be the defense where they rank better, but it’s still not much better than an average team. With Murray, that should get better, but they are missing Porter and will for the rest of the season.

Golden State Warriors Betting Preview:

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know what the Warriors are doing. A truly superb season by a team that is quite deep when you look at the roster with a major piece in Klay Thompson yet to come back. The shooting guard is nearing a return, but it’s still some days away. Without him, the Warriors have been on fire. By quite a margin, the best defense in the league is leaving teams frustrated whenever they play them. Draymond Green is holding the fort extremely well on that end, seemingly covering multiple players by himself. Steph Curry is playing a superb season, scoring the ball effectively and getting teammates involved. Complimentary pieces in Poole and a solid bench is giving them more than they thought they will. Right now, they have some players in health & safety protocols like Wiggins and Poole, but it doesn’t matter. They knocked off the Suns fairly easily in Phoenix, showing just how good they are.

As noted above, the Warriors are the best defense in the league, and that’s a major calling card, especially when they have a night off. They were able to steal several games simply by playing suffocating defense. Offensively they are top 5 in league with the potential to get better as most players have not been firing on all cylinders. Wait till Klay gets back as well.

Key matchups

Jokic – Green

The key matchup in this one is going to be Green against Jokic. The Serbian has the size advantage, but I can’t imagine Green passing up on guarding him, at least for some stretches of the match. Draymond is very strong, and he will be able to handle Jokic physically for the most part, and he will need to if they want to win this match.

Morris – Curry

What can Monte Morris do against Steph Curry? Not much, but he will need to try, especially on the offensive end where Curry can be vulnerable. The Nuggets will be in the game if Morris can have a great shooting night. Enough to win? Probably not, but they need to try.

The Warriors will be favored here, and it just remains to be seen by what number. Whatever it is, I’m comfortable backing the Warriors. I just don’t see the Nuggets standing their ground on offense or defense. There is just too much of a talent difference. Back the Warriors and sleep easy.
