NBA Betting Preview – Lakers vs. Warriors

The NBA officially comes back on Tuesday with two great matches. Between the Los Angeles Lakers and the visiting Golden State Warriors, the latter one is what we will look into. Two teams played a fantastic play-in match last season, and two teams are hungry for success this season. Both teams are good, but both teams have major flaws, and only time will tell which will be able to overcome them. For starters, let’s see what this matchup might look like on the courts.

LA Lakers Betting Preview:

The Los Angeles Lakers are hoping this year is a revenge year. The way the last season finished was a big disappointment for the Lakers, who lost in the 1st round of the NBA Playoffs. Entering this season, some of the same questions remain. The team is interesting on paper, but once again, they are not entirely healthy. Ariza and Horton-Tucker are out and won’t play in the season opener, while Ellington, Nunn, and Monk are GTD. LeBron James and Anthony Davis are fully healthy, which is a positive for the Lakers as their whole game should revolve around them.

Russell Westbrook will provide some much-needed energy during the regular season, but their preseason matches showed that the team lacks chemistry on the curt. That could be troublesome early in the season, but they will find their rhythm and start playing much better over time. A lot will revolve around Anthony Davis and his engagement level. If he is fully committed, the Lakers will be one of the top teams.

Golden State Warriors Betting Preview:

The Warriors are widely picked as a dark horse candidate to place very high in the West, and for a good reason. They have continuity keeping pretty much the roster intact from last season with Curry still playing at an MVP level. The sharpshooter scored 41 points in the final preseason game showing that he is ready for the season to start. They added some solid veterans and should see Klay Thompson return to the courts during the year. It will be a huge boost for the Warriors, who have missed him greatly, especially on defense.

Andrew Wigging also got vaccinated, and he will be available to play in the season opener. Three players are listed as unavailable for this match, with Thompson and Wiseman officially out and Kuminga a GTD Decision.

Key matchups

Davis – Green

This matchup almost singlehandedly decided the play-in match as Draymond Green could keep Anthony Davis in check. If the Warriors hope to win, they will need another heroic defensive performance from Green in this match. The reason the Lakers won that match was that Golden State simply lacked the firepower. That should improve this season with some solid additions and players like Toscano-Anderson having another season in the books.

Curry – Westbrook

This Warriors team will go as far as Steph Curry takes them. That much is clear, and the sharpshooter will need to regularly score in the 30s if the Warriors want to stand a chance in matches like these. Westbrook, albeit not a fantastic defender, is a committed one, and he will race around trying to catch Curry of the block. The Lakers should have the advantage if he can wear down Curry with his explosive offensive play and play committed one-on-one defense.

Lakers – Warriors betting lines

As expected, this is a close match to call. The Lakers are home favorites, having given a -4,5 advantage. It’s pretty accurate as this match will likely come down to a few possessions, but the over/under is set at 230. Defenses are not played on a high intensity early in the season, especially the season opener, making this line worth thinking about.

Free Betting Pick

The preseason hardly matters in the NBA, but the Lakers went 0-6 while the Warriors went 6-0, and considering that, it’s hard not to like the Warriors in this spot. They are the team with better chemistry, better offensive flow, and players who know each other very well on the court. They scored over 100 points in all of the matches, which indicates this could be a high-scoring match as well.

Take the Warriors +4,5. If you are feeling brave, try the Moneyline as well. Both seem safer options than the over as the Lakers were the top defense in the League last year, and they might just keep it under the total.
