NBA Betting Preview Lakers vs. Nets January 25, 2022

On Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers (23-24) visit the Barclays Center for an inter-conference road game against the Brooklyn Nets (29-17). The Lakers have had a hit-or-miss season thus far, most recently losing 113-107 on the road to the Miami Heat on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Nets were defeated 136-125 by the Minnesota Timberwolves but are still second in the Eastern Conference standings.

Los Angeles Lakers Betting Preview:

In a 113-107 loss to the Miami Heat on Sunday night, LeBron James led the Lakers in scoring with 33 points and 11 rebounds, his 17th consecutive game with at least 26. Russell Westbrook also added 24 points, while Avery Bradley and Carmelo Anthony chipped in 26 points.

Los Angeles has struggled mightily without Anthony Davis as the All-Pro Center will miss his 17th consecutive game. Davis is recovering from a sprained left knee ligament and is doubtful for Tuesday’s game.

The Lakers scored 107 points in their last outing and averaged 111.3 points per game. The offense looked good against the Heat, hitting 45.6 percent of their field goals and 27.5 percent of their three-point attempts, but the big problem remains on defense, where Los Angeles is allowing 112.7 points per game on average. They gave up 113 points in their previous game and will have to improve if they wish to take down one of the best offensive teams in the league.

New York Nets Betting Preview:

The Timberwolves ended the Nets’ two-game winning streak in their most recent game, and New York will try to avenge their setback by beating the Lakers, giving the Nets their fourth win in their previous game, six games.

The Brooklyn Nets are averaging 112.2 points per game this season, and against the Timberwolves, they collected 125 points, making 50.5 percent of their field goals and 39.5 percent of their three-pointers. With 30 points, six rebounds, and five assists, Kyrie Irving led the way for Brooklyn, while Patty Mills added 21 points, five rebounds, and 13 assists. James Harden also had a huge game in the absence of Kevin Durant, with the veteran recording a double-double with 13 points, five rebounds, and 13 assists.

Brooklyn has also been strong on defense, allowing only 109.8 points per game. They conceded 136 points in their previous game and will need to improve dramatically if they win this one.

The Lakers (-3.5) take on the Nets (+135 to win) at 7:30 PM ET on Tuesday. The point total is set at 226.5 for the matchup. In their last 20 games against Pacific Division opponents, the Nets are 16-4. At the same time, in their last seven games, the Lakers are 2-5 ATS and 2-5 versus the Nets in their previous seven meetings.

The Nets have won two of their last three games, but they have struggled at home recently, losing six of their last eight. They generally play well offensively, but they will struggle to score in this game because Kevin Durant is injured and Kyrie Irving cannot play at home due to his Vaccination status.

Additionally, the Lakers’ defense has been strong lately, holding their last three opponents to 110 points or less. Los Angeles also has no problems scoring, as LeBron James has been on an absolute tear, while the Nets allowed 136 points to the Timberwolves in their last matchup. The Lakers are desperate to make a playoff push in this one, and I think they start putting the pedal to the metal in this one.
