NBA Betting Preview – Hawks vs. Jazz

A brilliant matchup awaits us in Georgia when the visiting Utah Jazz takes on the home Atlanta Hawks. It’s a polarizing matchup between two teams playing very good basketball, and what can Atlanta do was interesting to break down.

Hawks Betting Preview:

The Atlanta Hawks entered the season with some very good results, after which they cooled down a bit. They are one of the teams in the League with the most continuity, having retained the majority of their core along with their coach. That is extremely important because chemistry building will take less time, in theory at least. So far, for Atlanta, it’s come down to a home and road split. At home, the Hawks are 3-0 with some solid victories over good teams.

On the road, they are 1-3, and that’s something that will need to change, especially if the team from Georgia is hopeful of getting back to where they were last year. Looking at the numbers, the Hawks are a pretty average team so far this season. A 4-3 record backs that up but at home, they are one of the better ones. The offense isn’t anything special so far because a couple of players are banged up. Young, Bogdanovic, and Collins are all day-to-day but are expected to play. Defensively they rank a bit higher, but and they will need to do that, especially at home.

Jazz Betting Preview:

The Utah Jazz is once again doing Utah Jazz things early in the season. A 6-1 record, wiping the floor with most of the teams in the League, has been their trademark in the past couple of years. We are used to being always good in the regular season, often placing very high in the standings. However, it’s the playoffs where they fall of usually. So far this year, the Jazz have been a very good team on both sides of the ball. Rudy Gobert is again doing his thing on the defensive side, which makes the Jazz the 4th best defense in the League.

On the offensive side, a lot depends on Donovan Mitchell, but and he is once again putting up big numbers. His shooting is not that good at 40 %, but it is expected he will pick that up once the season gets going. All of that is good enough for the 7th best offense right now and a 6-1 record, so things are rather good. How they will fare against Atlanta, let’s find out.

Key matchups

Young – Conley

Both Trae Young and Mike Conley had very good outings in their last matches, scoring over 20. Their matchup will be one to watch as both are rather key for their teams. Conley is a capable defender, yet his veteran status does not allow him to play strong defense consistently if he can keep Young below 30 points; that should give the Jazz quite a bit of a push towards securing a W.

Mitchell – Bogdanovic

Another interesting matchup between two very capable offensive players. Their duel might come down to points, but Mitchell has a clear athleticism advantage, which should suit him well on defense. If he can keep Bogdanovic away from points, then the Jazz will have a really good chance. I don’t see Bogdanovic stopping Mitchell either way, so Donovan should have a big game.

Hawks vs. Jazz betting lines

The Utah Jazz is a one-point favorite on the road, which is expected considering they are supposed to be the superior team. The Hawks are also on the 2nd night of a back-to-back which makes it even more logical.  The points are set at 220, which is quite high, but with these two teams, you can never be sure of the totals, so that I would stay away from this.

Free Betting Pick

Somewhat as expected, the Utah Jazz is favored on the road in Atlanta. The Jazz has been one of the better teams this season, and they are doing it thanks to their defense which is one of the best. That should suit them well against the Hawks, who are a couple of main offensive weapons banged up.

The fact it’s the 2nd night of a back-to-back by Atlanta helps as well. For me, there is only one thing playable here, and that’s Jazz. The points are set at 220, and I would stay away from that. You never know with these teams, and both the under and over seem plausible to me. Take the Jazz and sleep easy.
