NBA Betting Preview – Celtics vs. Wizards

The 2-2 Celtics host the 2-1 Wizard in a match that might end up being a playoff matchup. A lot of things need to go right for both teams, but let’s see how they stack up in the first meeting of the season.

Celtics Betting Preview:

The Boston Celtics started with two losses but have since bounced back with two good wins. It’s been kind of a mixed bag for Celtics, which was expected. A new coach, a new system, a team that is talented and not one of the better ones in the league. They are posting average numbers on both sides of the ball with neither the offense nor defense anything special. They should be able to make the playoffs simply because of some of their players, but it takes them some time to finally click appropriately.

The key for them this season will be keeping that TD Garden crowd engaged. Winning at home is a must for any playoff team, and a win against an excellent Wizards team so far is much needed.

Wizards Betting Preview:

The Wizards once again had a very busy summer, but it seems like the moves they did actually work this time around. That’s always a plus with the team looking fairly good and engaged on the court. Two wins and a loss to Brooklyn is a pretty good start for the Wizard, especially when the wins came over Toronto in Canada and against Indiana, a playoff contender.

The team is playing average defense, which is a huge plus considering they were hunted last year for the overs. They often lose matches because they could not defend anything, so they will fight for the playoffs if they continue to play league-average defense. The 7th best offense is simply a product of quite a few talented scorers, with Beal chief among them.

Key matchups

Brown – Beal

Jaylen Brown has been better known recently for his offensive output than his defensive shutdowns, but he can play outstanding defense when he tries. If he wants to see his team leave TD Garden with a W, he will need to play defense against Beal as much as possible. The Wizard shooting guard is one of the premier scorers in league with sharpshooting tendencies and driving ability. Limiting him will be key for the Celtics if they want to win that match. In some instances, maybe Smart will try to defend him, but it’s not a good matchup on paper for him.

Smart – Dinwiddie

Spencer Dinwiddie is back on the courts, and he is playing sensationally. Shooting 50 % from the field while scoring 23 ppg is impressive numbers for the point guard, and it’s why his team is 2-1 heading to Boston. Marcus Smart will have his hands full, but he can shut down Spencer. It will be a much easier time for Boston.

Celtics – Wizard – betting lines

The Celtics are favored by 4,5 at home, which is right around where you expect this line. It’s tricky to call, especially with Boston playing at home; there is always a chance they roll the Wizards. The points are set at 226, which seems a bit too high for my taste. I believe both teams will score over 100 but how far they can go remains to be seen.

Okay, so this is a relatively simple one. The line at 4,5 has values on both sides. Had it been a bit higher, I would have backed the Wizards, but I think the Celtics should take home in Boston. If they want to go where they want to go, they should be winning matches like these, especially at home.

I’m leaning on the under when it comes to the points because I don’t see both teams scoring this much. It will be close, though, so maybe Boston is generally a safer bet here.
