College Football Betting Preview Bears vs. Sooners

This Saturday, the Baylor Bears get an immediate chance to redeem themselves after a mildly surprising loss to TCU. They take on the 8th ranked Oklahoma Sooners at McLane Stadium in Waco, Texas.

On the other side of this one is the Oklahoma Sooners, who do not really need to redeem themselves, winning every game they have played in this year going 9-0. Certainly be on the lookout for fireworks in this one, as both of these teams can move the ball and the bookies now have this total posted at 63.

Oklahoma Sooners Betting Preview:

Although the Sooners come into this one undefeated, they have not exactly faced a murderer’s row of opponents, although they did beat TCU 3 weeks ago, a team which just defeated Baylor. The offense is certainly the strength of this team, putting up over 30 points in all of their games outside of the Nebraska and West Virginia games.

Spencer Rattler will once again be under center for the Sooners, and although he does not have eye-popping numbers, he has nonetheless been solid this year. One of the main reasons those numbers are not all that crazy is the fact that the Sooners have rarely needed to throw the ball, blowing out many of their opponents here in 2021. The only knock on Rattler this year is the interceptions because he has already thrown 5, but I, personally, am not all that worried about that side of his game as I think he can lock in when it really counts.

As a result of all those blowouts, this running game has really been able to cook, especially true for their lead back, Kennedy Brooks. Brooks has 802 rushing yards, and 9 touchdowns on just 131 attempts, and the big play potential certainly is their already breaking one-off this year for 65 yards.

Baylor Bears Betting Preview:

The Baylor Bears likely lost their already unlikely chance of making the College Football Playoff last week with their loss to TCU, which showed the weaknesses in this defense. Baylor lost that game 30-28, but it likely should have been a whole lot worse than that, as TCU nearly out-gained them by 200 yards. The offense for Baylor was also extremely concentrated, with  Tyquan Thornton and Abram Smith gaining the vast majority of the yards for the Bears.

Gerry Bohanon at the QB position needs to shoulder plenty of the blame for that loss and throw two crucial picks, which almost certainly cost them the game. Along with this defense, he will need to rise to the occasion in front of the home fans on Saturday if they want any chance of hanging with a team like the Sooners, who love to run up the score.

The weird thing about that last game is that this Baylor defense has been quite decent for much of the year, and TCU did not exactly have an electric offense, so I would not be surprised if they are able to bounce back in some capacity here with that just being a one-off performance.

Oklahoma Sooners vs. Baylor Bears Betting Lines & Odds

It does not seem like the Oklahoma Sooners have really been let loose up to this point in the season, and this very well could be the spot. Spencer Rattler really wants to build on those stats, which are a bit underwhelming by his standard, and he now gets to stare down a defense which just gave up nearly 600 total yards to TCU.

The Bears are better upfront than they are in the secondary, and luckily for the Sooners, they have a guy who can throw it all over the place, which puts them in a great position to win this game. Another factor is that I do not see this Bears running game getting going, and I can’t see Gerry Bohanon going shot for shot with Rattler.

With that said, I am looking at the Oklahoma Sooners against the spread -5.5, as I could see this getting close to 7 at some point closer to Saturday.
