College Football Betting Preview A&M Aggies vs. Tigers

One of the marquee matchups of this college football slate takes place at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas, when the Auburn Tigers take on a high-flying Aggies team who certainly is not short on confidence. The bookmakers have the home team listed as 4.5 point favorites for this one, and that makes sense; if you can beat Alabama, you can beat anyone, right?

Auburn is certainly no pushovers, though, as they also come into this one off the back of consecutive wins against ranked opponents, so this should make for an interesting betting game with this one expected to be extremely competitive.

Auburn Tigers Betting Preview:

Although I do agree that the Aggies should be favored for this game, it does feel like the Tigers are getting disrespected just a bit with this number at 4.5. Auburn has a 6-2 record and has not exactly had an easy schedule, and they would like nothing more than to go into College Station and upset an Aggies team that seemingly everyone is high on.

The Tigers have the talent to do just that as well, with Bo Nix having an excellent season at the QB position, completing 62.2% of his passes and throwing for 1764 passing yards up to this point. Those numbers are even more impressive considering Auburn does not have a true alpha receiver with Kobe Hudson, Demetris Robertson, and Shedrick Jackson having very similar numbers.

Although the Tigers typically have a solid run game with Tank Bigsby leading the backfield, it might be tough for him to get going here against an A&M run defense that has only allowed 129 rushing yards per game.

Texas A&M Aggies Betting Preview:

People were rightfully worried about this Aggies team just a month ago following back-to-back losses against Arkansas and Mississippi State. Still, a win against Alabama quickly calmed the nerves of Aggies fans. There has been no let-up from the Aggies since that big win picking up a further two blow-out victories against Mizzou and the Gamecocks.

The Aggies typically win their games by playing excellent defense and pounding the ball on offense, running it early and often with Isaiah Spiller, who looks like he may just be NFL bound one day. The junior running back now has 761 rushing yards and 5 TD’s, and he is once again set up to have a decent game with the home fans behind him.

Spiller has been awesome so far, and it makes sense to give him plenty of touches, but this Auburn defense is weaker in the secondary in comparison to the front 7, so it would not surprise me if the coaching staff goes with a more pass-first approach here. Zach Calzada has been good, not great, at the QB position, and he will really have to be on his A-game here if the Aggies are to find success.

The big problem with Calzada has been the interceptions, as he has already thrown 7 of them, but if he can clean up that part of his game, he does have talent and certainly the ability to put his team in a winning position. Should he play well, the number one target on this team will be Jalen Wydermyer who gets a good individual matchup and could explode for a big game.

Auburn Tigers vs. Texas A&M Betting Lines & Odds

I expect this one to come right down to the wire, as both of these teams have proven to be solid here in 2021. The Aggies have the better overall defense, but the Tigers do come into the game with the advantage at QB. When you compare these two teams, there are a lot of similarities, and it really does not surprise me that one team is ranked 12 and the other is ranked 13.

With that said, the value here is on Auburn at +4.5, and I can see that number coming down closer to game time, as sharper bettors are likely to hit the Tigers during the week, so this would be a bet to get on sooner rather than later.
