NCAA Football Betting Preview Ole Miss Rebels vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs

A pretty exciting game awaits this Saturday, as the Ole Miss Rebels end the regular season with a matchup with their in-state rivals, the Mississippi State Bulldogs, who will be hungry to finish their season on a winning note. This might surprise many people, but the Bulldogs are actually favored in this one coming into this match as 1 point favorites.

While that number likely won’t hold into the weekend, it is a sign that we will have one exciting and competitive game on our hands which is great for neutrals and fans alike. These teams both are on winning streaks and will both make a bowl game, so it will be interesting to get one last look at both of these teams going into bowl season.

Ole Miss Rebels Betting Preview:

Ole Miss has a legit Heisman contender on their hands, even if his odds have drifted over the course of the past few weeks, but he will not be giving the road team a massive advantage at QB with a very talented signal-caller on the other side of this one. Corral leads one of the very best offenses in college football, with this team averaging well over 500 yards per game, but that talented offense will no doubt get tested in a big way against a rock-solid defense which the Bulldogs possess.

The team as a whole is riding a three-game winning streak with a win over Vanderbilt last time out, beating the Commodores 31-17. That was not an amazing performance, though, as it seemed like the Rebels were sleepwalking through much of that game, with them favored by as much as 35.5 points in that game. That likely was the nail in the coffin of Corral’s Heisman chances throwing for just 326 yards, 2 TD’s, and one pick. Obviously, those are not the worst stats in the world, but much more was expected from him, and the team as a whole, in that game against Vanderbilt.

The weakness is the same as it has been all year, as this team has struggled mightily on the defensive side of the ball, allowing 428.5 yards per game with a big-time propensity to give up big rushing yards. Those struggles have been tempered a bit during the 3 game winning streak holding all three of those opponents to under 20 points, but even in those games, you never felt like this was a strong coherent unit that can shutdown the very best offenses in the nation. They get an elite passing attack on the opposite side of the field this Saturday, so it will once again be on them to step up to put this team in a position to win.

Mississippi State Bulldogs Betting Preview:

Will Rogers is looking like an outstanding QB who has had a breakout sophomore season throwing for a whopping 4113 passing yards to go with an excellent 34-8 TD to pick ratio. Now the Rebels defense tends to be weaker against the run as opposed to the pass, but I do not have many doubts about Rogers’s ability to shred this defense.

The Bulldogs’ last game was essentially an exhibition against the Tennessee State Tigers, beating them by a score of 55-10. That is a pretty impressive score line on the surface, but they did only cover that 44 points spread by 1 point, so we will see this Saturday how they come into this game off of what was pretty much a bye week.

The Bulldogs do have some big wins on their record, though, and they have proven that they can not only hang with, but beat some big-time teams, so they will not be too worried about the coming test that the Rebels bring. In terms of the Bulldogs offense, Makai Polk will be a guy to look out for as he now leads the team in yards with 891 and 9 TD’s and with success, I expect out of Rogers that clearly will correlate with his top pass catcher.

Ole Miss Rebels vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs Betting Lines & Odds

These are two very talented teams, and I really struggle with picking a side here, but I don’t think we need to pick one in terms of betting. I love the over here in terms of a real bet, as it is currently listed at 61, and I think these two teams crush that total. The Rebels defense has been better in recent times, but I think they break here. On the other side, I like the Bulldog’s defense, but I don’t even think they will be able to slow down Corral and the Rebels offense, so I see this one easily going over the total.
