NFL Preview: San Diego Chargers at Arizona Cardinals

This Monday night game features two teams from the west but from different divisions as the Chargers come into Glendale, Arizona as a three point underdog against the Arizona Cardinals. San Diego finished the regular season with four wins and then defeated Cincinnati in the wild card game. It went on to lose to the Denver Broncos to finish their season. Quarterback Phillip Rivers played well and won the Comeback Player of the Year in 2013.

Arizona finished 10-6 on the year in the tough NFC West but didn’t make it to the playoffs. They played well at home with a 6-2 record and allowed only just under 18 points per game in those games. Carson Palmer had a stellar season with 4274 yards with a 63.3 passes completion rate in 2013. The defense was strong and ranked sixth with 317.4 yards allowed and 47 sacks.

The Cardinals will be without Karlos Danby as he left for free agency and Daryl Washington was suspended for substance abuse and will miss the entire year. Defensive end Darnell Dockett has knee surgery and will not play in 2014.

The Chargers defense rank 23rd last season and will get better with the addition of Brandon Flowers and reurn of Dwight Feeney. They also ranked fifth with 393.3 total yards on offense and have Ryan Mathews, Danny Woodhead and receiving hands of Keenan Allen with 1046 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Looking at this match-up we find two evenly matched teams. San Diego has won the last three meetings with Arizona. It is difficult to win on the road against the Cardinals but San Diego and Rivers have the guns to do it. We will place our bet on San Diego +3 to cover in this game.
