NFL Pick: Kansas City Chiefs at San Diego Chargers

On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs will head to San Diego to take on the divisional leading Chargers. This is a 3:05pm CST game on Sunday October 19th, in Week 7 of the National Football League season. Kansas City comes into the game following their bye. The Chiefs are 2-3 with wins over Miami and New England. The Chiefs have lost games to Tennessee, Denver and San Francisco. The Chiefs are 1-2 on the road. For San Diego, they have won five straight games since their opening week loss at Arizona. The Chargers are coming off their win over Oakland, but before that downed the Jets, Jaguars, Bills and Seahawks.

The Chargers are doing a lot of things well, including ranking inside the Top 10 in both passing and rushing yards allowed. Offensively, the Chargers are moving the ball well via the air, with 285.5 yards per game. Phillip Rivers has been outstanding, with 1,756 yards and 15 touchdowns on the season. Rivers top targets have been Eddie Royal and Malcom Floyd. Floyd leads with 362 yards, but Royal has 5 touchdowns and 22 receptions. San Diego has already pitched a shut-out, and also on games allowed just 10 and 14 points respectively. The Chargers will play at Denver on Thursday night in a quick turn around against a divisional rival.

The Kansas City Chiefs are still stinging after having a week off. Andy Reid and his crew felt they could have gotten the October 5th loss at San Francisco. The Chiefs are passing for just 197.4 yards per game. Kansas City’s offense hinges greatly on the ability of Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis to find open space. Charles has been a slow starter this season, but Davis has picked up the slack with 3 touchdowns on 73 carries. Kansas City has seen the emergence of Travis Kelce at the tight end position. Kelce has 3 touchdowns, on just 20 receptions in 2014. The Chiefs are home the next two weeks, as both the Rams and Jets come in for winnable games.

This should be a really fun game. These two teams know each other really well and will get together again on December 28th in Kansas City. The Chargers are playing as one of the hottest teams in all of the league right now. That’s a little scary, as the Chiefs are looking to right the ship and Andy Reid will have his team hungry and ready to go. The oddsmakers are giving the Chargers a slight advantage in this one. We really like the Chargers defense, and feel that will be the key in this game. We are going to bet on the San Diego Chargers -4 at home over the Kansas City Chiefs in this one. Chargers have a chance to move to 6-1, and will do so, staying ahead of Denver.
