NFL Pick: Detroit Lions at New England Patriots

In what many are expecting to be a great game out of the National Football League; the Detroit Lions will travel to Foxboro to take on the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. The Detroit Lions are currently atop the NFC North; tied with the Green Bay Packers at 7-3 record. The Lions are coming off a very frustrating 14-6 loss, which snapped their four game winning streak. For New England, they are currently the top seed in the AFC. New England has won six straight games since the September 29th loss at the Kansas City Chiefs. Last week, the Patriots scored 42 points in the beat down of the Indianapolis Colts.

The New England Patriots are once again led by their quarterback play. Tom Brady has been fantastic once again, completing 233 of 364 passes for 2,649 yards and 24 touchdowns. Brady’s top targets have been Rob Gronkowski, with 9 touchdown receptions, and Julian Edelman, who leads with 59 receptions. The Patriots received huge production from running back Jonas Gray last week. Gray rushed for four touchdowns in the win over the Colts. The Patriots are rushing for 115.7 yards per game. New England in their last six games have scored 243 points. On the season, New England has scored 323 and allowed 218.

For the Detroit Lions, their 6 points was the worst of the season. In the Lions three losses this season, they have averaged just 9 points per game. On the season, the Lions are scoring just 18.8 points per game. Calvin Johnson, after missing a half of the season has caught just 34 passes for 3 touchdowns. The 3 touchdowns tie him with Golden Tate for the top of the team. The Lions have a tough stretch to end the season. Following this game, Detroit will host Chicago and Tampa Bay, and then Minnesota. Following that, the Lions are at Chicago and then at Green Bay. The Lions are the top ranked rushing defense; as they are allowing teams to pick up just 68.8 yards per game on the ground.

Detroit did not look very good on the offensive side of the ball a week ago. Look for things to change a little bit in this one. While New England has a solid defense, they have been scored on. Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson are too much to keep down several weeks in a row. While we are not saying the Detroit Lions are going to win the game, we do think they will compete in this one on the road. Our final bet for this game is going to be the Detroit Lions +7.5 over the New England Patriots. The Lions cover the spread, while the Patriots come away with the win at home.
