Houston Rockets vs. New Orleans Pelicans – February 23, 2017

It’s the first game back from the All Star Break for two teams out of the Western Conference. The Houston Rockets will take on the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center. The Houston Rockets are third in the Western Conference with a 40-18 record. Houston lost their final game before the break at home to Miami.

The New Orleans Pelicans made huge news over the All Star Break. While hosting the game, DeMarcus Cousins came over from Sacramento in a trade. Now, Cousins will team up with Anthony Davis. The Pelicans are 11th in the Western Conference with a 23-34 record, 2.5 games behind the 8th seeded Nuggets. The New Orleans Pelicans and Houston Rockets are -4 point favorites for this game.

Pelicans Seeking to Pound Basketball Inside

The New Orleans Pelicans are going to have the toughest inside combination in the league. Both Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins are averaging double/double’s. Davis is scoring 27 points per game for the Pelicans. Jrue Holiday is the third guy, and the point guard for the Pelicans. He leads the team with 7.5 assists per game.

The New Orleans Pelicans won just 30 games last season, which means they need to finish 8-17 to beat their win total. THe Pelicans are scoring 103.4 points per game, but hoping Cousins improves their defense, allowing more than 106 points per game.

Harden and Rockets Coming off Great First Half

James Harden and the Houston Rockets had a fantastic first half of the season. The Rockets won 40 games, and 19 of them were on the road. The Rockets top scorer was Harden, with more than 29 points per game. The Rockets are second in the league, scoring more than 114 points per game.

The Rockets are second in the league with 25 assists. Houston added Lou Williams in a trade from the Lakers. Williams is the top 6th man in the league, and a great scorer. The Rockets if the postseason started today would be the third seed and host the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round.

Rockets Fall

The New Orleans Pelicans have high hopes now that they have the best two big men on the same team. Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins are going to be a ton inside. The Rockets can score, and score a bunch, but those two guys in the paint are going to cause problems. Look for a great start to the second half from New Orleans.

The Houston Rockets are going to win 55+ games this season. That is huge coming off a tough season last year. But, in this game, on the road, they are going to lose the game. The final bet for this game on Thursday night is the New Orleans Pelicans +4 over the New Orleans Pelicans.
