NBA Betting Predictions — Clippers Can Draw Closer to Thunder in Wednesday Night Clash

The Los Angeles Clippers have been putting forth a furious rush, and along the way they found themselves in a position where they might be able to pass the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference standings. They will never have a better chance to take a big leap than they will on Wednesday night, as they play host to the Thunder in NBA betting action that tips off at 10:35 PM ET at the Staples Center.

The Thunder is the #2 team in the West, and although the San Antonio Spurs are out of reach, the Thunder still has to bear down, because the Clippers are nipping at their heels. Los Angeles, at 55-23 straight-up, can get to within a half-game of the Thunder with a win here.

As most sportsbook customers know, the home court advantage in the playoffs is determined by where the team is seeded, and if these two division champions should eventually meet each other (which could happen in the second round), the one with the better record obviously gets that edge.

In the NBA betting lines that have been posted on the game by the people at Bookmaker, the Clippers are the favorites in the game:

Los Angeles Clippers -3.5
Oklahoma City Thunder +3.5

Over 212.5 points -110
Under 212.5 points -110
The Clippers are going to be a lot of trouble for anyone they face in the playoffs. That is because they have such great balance in their offense. Chris Paul is, of course, the “straw that stirs the drink.” He plays a great two-man game with forward Blake Griffin, who has been dominant at times. Jamal Crawford may be out of action at the moment (Achilles injury), but he is explosive coming off the bench and was outstanding when he joined the starting lineup in place of JJ Redick, a deadly three-point shooter who is now back. DeAndre Jordan has limited range, but as NBA bettors know, he leads the league in shooting percentage and rebounding. Then there are people like Matt Barnes, Darren Collison and maybe even the likes of Gen Davis and Danny Granger (currently injured) in support roles.

Needless to say, there are a lot of places to get some spark from. In all, there are six players averaging in double figures, and the Clippers are shooting 47.5% as a team, although they have topped that just once in the last seven games.

The big news in OKC’s 107-92 victory in Sacramento last night was that Kevin Durant’s streak of 41 games with 25 points or more came to an end. It’s not that he couldn’t have extended it, but he got a rest in the fourth quarter as the game was in hand. This was all part of a plan by coach Scott Brooks to keep his guys fresh for this game. Russell Westbrook did not play on Tuesday, and Bookmaker customers are aware that he does not play both ends of back-to-backs. He was just coming back from a knee ailment in February when these teams last met, and he had a lackluster night, with just 13 points. So clearly he’ll be looking for something better this time around, as will NBA bettors who are backing the Thunder.

Within the context of covering the basketball pointspread, Oklahoma City has not been a great traveler, covering just two of their last ten. However, they have not often been a road underdog, and they have been protiable in that role (7-4 ATS).
