NBA Betting Odds — T-Wolves Can Gain Ground on Suns with Tuesday Win in Phoenix

The Minnesota Timberwolves, who always seem to achieve less than they hoped for when they come into a season, are staring another absence from the playoff picture in the face. They have a chance to make their current road trip a successful one if they can somehow manage to defeat the Phoenix Suns, who encounter in NBA betting action that is slated to tip off at 9:05 PM ET at the US Airways Center.

The Suns are 33-22 straight-up and are the NBA’s best team against the pointspread, with a ledger that is now at 36-18-1. That means they have covered two-thirds of their decisions against the number. And after a loss suffered at the hands of Houston the other night, they are in eighth place in the Western Conference. They are a half-game behind the Dallas Mavericks and a full game in back of the Golden State Warriors, but they are also just two games ahead of the Memphis Grizzlies, who have been mounting a change over the last few weeks.

The T-Wolves are 27-29 straight-up (29-27 against the number), which places them behind Memphis, but they trail Phoenix by 6.5 games, which means that they really have their work cut out of them if they want to have a chance to reach the post-season. In fact, this game, with an opportunity to gain a game on the Suns, would be a “must.”

In the NBA odds that have been posted by the folks at WagerWeb, the Suns are the slight favorites at home:

Phoenix Suns -3
Minnesota Timberwolves +3

Over 213 points -110
Under 213 points -110

This contest represents an opportunity for Minnesota to even the score with Phoenix, in the respect that in the previous meeting, which took place January 8 in Minneapolis, the Suns used a late rally to win 104-103. The Timberwolves got to the line 35 times, , but they only shot 39.5% from he field and failed to cover as an eight-point favorite against the basketball odds.

Kevin Love disappointed himself in that game, as he made just four field goals, and this time around it is likely that he will have less help surrounding him. Minnesota has been doing business without the services of Kevin Martin and Nikola Pecovic, who combined for 37 points in that earlier encounter, and they could miss this one too. In fact, Martin will definitely be out of action (thumb injury), while Pecovic has been out for a dozen games after hurting his ankle.

But as WagerWeb customers know, he has been doing just fine without them. Love has scored 30 points or more in five straight games, which is more than anybody ever has with this franchise. And the Timberwolves have had a big rebounding advantage the last two games, pulling down 122 boards compared to just 86 on the part of the opposition.

Minnesota and Phoenix have both had three-game winning streaks broken. While the Wolves blew an 18-point lead to lose by eleven points to Portland the other night, the Suns were tight with the Houston rockets all the way and had a late lead but could not stop Houston in the final stages, losing 115-112, as they were getting a point and a half in the NBA betting odds. They allowed the Rockets to shoot 52.6% after holding the previous three opponents under 40%.

Nonetheless, the Suns have covered nine of their last 13 games against the basketball lines, going 9-4 straight-up during that period. What Jeff Hornacek has done without any genuine NBA “stars” has been amazing, although players like Goran Dragic and Gerald Green (not to mention injured Eric Bledsoe) have emerged as outstanding players.
