NBA Betting Odds & Predictions — Suns See Opportunity Against Wounded Clippers

The Phoenix Suns are at that point, with the NBA regular season winding down, that they are desperate for victories. And they will take them whatever way they can get them. Well, they may have caught themselves something of a break approaching Wednesday night’s game in which they play host to the Los Angeles Clippers, in NBA betting action that is scheduled to begin at 10:05 PM ET at the US Airways Center.

At the moment, Phoenix has a record of 44-30 straight-up, and with the defeat suffered by the Dallas Mavericks against Golden State on Tuesday night, Phoenix finds itself in a tie with the Memphis Grizzlies for the #7 spot in the West. They may have shot themselves in the foot with a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers two nights ago, as that broke a six-game winning streak. Bookmaker patrons know they are going to encounter a few speed bumps in these next few games, as they have to face the Clippers, Portland Trail Blazers and Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Clippers are most likely going to be without power forward Blake Griffin, who has a back injury, and high-scoring guard Jamal Crawford, who is steel dealing with a bad calf. That puts them down a couple of key performers against the Suns. The Clippers are currently 53-22 straight-up. And with the Thunder having to play against San Antonio on Thursday, they have a chance to challenge for the #2 seed in the conference, which, if it happened that way, might pit them against Phoenix in the first round of the playoffs.

These are two of the best teams in the league when it comes to beating the NBA pointspread. Phoenix is the best of all, with a 48-25-1 record against the basketball odds, while the Clippers have been highly profitable as well, at 42-32-1.

In the NBA betting odds that have been posted on this game by the people at Bookmaker, Phoenix is laying points:

Phoenix Suns -3.5
Los Angeles Clippers +3.5

Over 212.5 points -110
Under 212.5 points -110
The Clippers had to go without Griffin and Crawford in a road game on Monday night at Minnesota, but that didn’t hamper this team, which came away with a 114-104 victory. The story with this squad is that is deep enough that it can get winning performances from a number of different places. That much was demonstrated when Chris Paul had to sit out a considerable amount of time earlier in the season. On Monday, DeAndre Jordan, a genuine unsung hero who is the league leader in both rebounding (14.3 per game) and shooting percentage (67%), came up with 24 caroms on the evening, and Darren Collison, who filled in ably for Paul earlier in the year, scored 28 points. Of course, the Clippers covered as a 2.5-point favorite in the NBA odds. This team has now won 16 of its last 18 games.

Bookmaker customers know that Phoenix has out-performed the expectation of NBA oddsmakers all season long, but in their last game, the Suns picked a bad moment to underachieve, as they shot just 38.5% at the Staples Center against the Lakers, losing a 115-99 decision. Coach Jeff Hornacek attributed the defeat to his team simply having a collective lack of energy, but there would seem to be no excuse for that, considering his club was coming from a day off after defeating the New York Knicks by 14 points at home. What is most important at this time is to just shrug off that defeat and keep going forward.

Phoenix has covered 10 of its last 14 games, and has played seven of its last eight contests under the total as it has been posted in the NBA betting odds. They met with some success in the first meeting between these teams this season, hitting a dozen triples in a 107-88 victory at Staples on December 30. But the Clippers have come back to win the next two encounters – a 104-96 win that came in Phoenix on March 4, and a 112-105 triumph in Los Angeles, coming just six days later, in which the Clippers shot 55% and overcame 21 turnovers. Griffin had 37 points in that game as well.
