NBA Betting — Nuggets Look to Push Clippers to the Limit on Tuesday

The Los Angeles Clippers are one of the hottest teams in the NBA right now, and there is still some hope for them to make it to the playoffs as the second seed in the West. Will that be enough to get the maximum effort out of them against the Denver Nuggets, as NBA betting action gets underway at 10:35 PM ET at the Staples Center? That is something BetDSI customers are asking as this game approaches.

The Clippers have taken some steps forward this season, and this has come by way of Blake Griffin taking things to a new level, as well as more depth being created. And this team feels that it has a coach that can take things all the way in Doc Rivers.

The Clippers are 56-24 on the season, and with Oklahoma City’s loss to New Orleans on Monday night, they can take over the #2 spot by winning this game and date with Portland in the season finale, coupled with a Thunder loss to the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night.

But will OKC lose to Detroit? If not, then the effort by the Clippers may have been better spent resting some people so that they can get a better start on their opening round series against the Golden State Warriors.

In the NBA betting odds that have been posted on this game at BetDSI, the Clippers are solid favorites:

Los Angeles Clippers -9.5
Denver Nuggets +9.5

Over 219.5 points -110
Under 219.5 points -110
The Nuggets have been a disappointment on an overall basis, and there are several reasons for that. Changing coaches from longtime mentor George Karl to Brian Shaw is something that brought about a change in style, because, after all, most of these coaches consider themselves “gurus” to an extent and they have to put their “stamp” on something.

With Shaw, that got him into early trouble as some players were disgruntled about taking a more deliberate approach. And as many BetDSI customers remember, there was a confrontation with veteran point guard Andre Miller that got ugly. Then there are the injuries, which have robbed this team of several players, including Danilo Gallinari, who was going to be the cornerstone of the offense.

The end result has been a 36-44 straight-up record, with the Nuggets putting together a 39-40 mark against the NBA betting odds.

There are some positives the Nuggets are starting to gather in the final weeks of the season. They have continued to play hard for Shaw, which is a good sign for him. In fact, Denver has covered 13 of its last 17 games against the basketball pointspread, and recently had their six-game cover streak broken in a straight-up victory against Utah.

That game against the Jazz took place with just seven players available. But this team was also short-handed last Thursday against the Golden State Warriors, and managed to come back from 20 points down to win at the Oracle Arena in Oakland. Timofey Mozgov grabbed 29 rebounds, which is a one-game high for the NBA this season. And BetDSI patrons have seen that the Nuggets have been fortunate to get nice numbers from Randy Foye in the absence of point guard Ty Lawson. Foye, a former Clipper, has averaged 25.3 ppg over his last three, and is shooting 49% from beyond the arc during the month of April.

It would be hard to imagine the Clippers waving the white flag on their chance for the #2 spot, as they have won 19 of their last 23 games. But don’t be surprised if Chris Paul and Griffin are not extended all that much, and if Jamal Crawford, who has recently come back from an Achilles injury, makes only a cameo appearance.
