NBA Betting Lines — Grizzlies Must Take Care of Business with Lakers Before Showdown with Suns

There are two teams left who are battling for an open playoff spot, and they will be in action against each other on Monday night. But one of them has a game to win on Sunday, so the Memphis Grizzlies will try to maintain some focus as they take on the Los Angeles Lakers in NBA betting action at 9:35 PM ET at the Staples Center.

The Grizzlies’ situation is this: they are 47-32 straight-up, which places them a half-game ahead of the Phoenix Suns, their Monday night opponents. They are in something of an advantageous position in that they hold a tie-breaker edge, but that doesn’t mean anything is guaranteed yet, especially as they have to face the Dallas Mavericks in the season finale on Wednesday. Dallas has already clinched a spot in the playoffs, but the Mavs may, at that point, be aiming for the #6 spot, depending on what happens with the Golden State Warriors.

We sincerely hope we haven’t confused you.

In the NBA betting lines that have been posted on this game by the people at Bookmaker, the Grizzlies are laying a lot of points on the road:

Memphis Grizzlies -12.5
Los Angeles Lakers +12.5

Over 209 points -110
Under 209 points -110

What is impressive about Memphis is the way they responded the way they had to this past Wednesday against the defending champion Miami Heat, matching Miami’s sharp shooting with some of their own, hitting 55% from the field in a 107-102 win. They have since chalked up an easy win at home against the Philadelphia 76ers, and have had a day off before this game, so they should be relatively fresh.

The Lakers are winding down a very dreary season, as they have already set a franchise record for losses and are actually in a spot where continuing to lose will ensure that they will be among the top four teams in the draft going into the lottery. Some NBA bettors figure that might provide a certain amount of “incentive” for them. Maybe that is the case, but the Lakers don’t really need any motivation to sit players down; they are missing Kobe Bryant already, naturally, and will also be without the likes of Xavier Henry, Steve Nash, Pau Gasol (with that nasty vertigo problems) and the recent acquisition how had been providing a little spark, Kent Bazemore.

So Bookmaker customers will be disappointed, perhaps, that there will be no Gasol-vs.-Gasol matchup, but there wasn’t one either when the Lakers defeated Memphis 96-92 at the FedEx Forum on December 17. In the last meeting, on February 26, Memphis scored a 108-103 win at home, but it hardly resembled a “payback” effort, as the Lakers shot 49% and hit 15 triples.

The three meetings between these clubs have been decided by a total of twelve points. And the Lakers have been banged up for them. Obviously, if the Grizzlies get caught looking ahead to the game with Phoenix on Monday they are going to risk being in a little trouble.

Neither of these teams has been particularly profitable of late; the Lakers have dropped their last six straight-up and four in a row against the NBA betting odds, while Memphis is 1-7-1 against the basketball pointspread over its last nine.
