O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 Overview

The drivers will all be new on this course as they recently repaved the entire track, less than a month ago. If you recall, last year, this race didn’t end until close to 3 AM in the morning due to weather delays and time needed for the track to dry. The administration at Texas Motor Speedway made ever effort in the offseason to make sure that won’t ever happen again by redesigning the track and applying new asphalt. We will get into that a little more in a bit.

Texas Motor Speedway is a 1.5-mile oval track in Fort Worth, Texas. The race is 501 miles and will equate to 334 laps.

The designers also changed the way the track banks in the corners. This year, instead of drivers facing a 24-degree embankment, they will only face a 20-degree bank, which should allow for more speed into the corners. They also widened the turns from 60 feet to 80 feet to create more passing into the corners.

I am not really going to look much at track history as this is a new track asphalt and with the new turn ratios and distance, this is basically a new track for everyone. If I were to consider using track history here, I would be more inclined to look at Kentucky Motor Speedway because the asphalt on that track is basically the same as the asphalt laid on Texas Motor Speedway.

This is an intermediate track so be sure when you are selecting who you want to bet, you check out who does well on these type of tracks. Now that we gave you all our info, let’s jump in and see what three drivers we like this week.

Driver Selections for O’Reilly Auto Parts

*My first driver is Martin Truex Jr at +750. Truex already has 1 win this year and is sitting in 3rd place in driver cup points. Truex has won 4 stages in 4 races so he is having a year to date. Truex is my favorite driver this week at +750.

*My second driver is Jimmy Johnson at +750. Johnson has won 2 times at Texas Motor Speedway and all though we aren’t using track history here, it’s more about intermediate history that we like and Johnson is not bad there.

*My third driver is Chase Elliott at +800. Elliott has 2 starts at Texas Motor Speedway, finishing top 5 in both. Elliott has put together a nice year finishing top 15 in every race this year. Elliott finished in 3rd place last week and I look for him to have a nice performance here at the new track in Fort Worth, Texas.

*Underdog Driver of the Day is Erik Jones at +3548. Jones is a relatively unheard of the driver but for those that play DFS, he has been an asset to your team if you have him and if you haven’t had him, he probably was on the team that beat you! He has fared well this year going off as a longshot on odds and minimum priced on DFS. Jones actually ran in this race in 2015, filling in for Matt Kenseth and finished 12th.
