A battle between two first place teams takes place in the Nation’s Capital tonight as the NL Central leading Milwaukee Brewers travel to Washington DC to take on the Nationals.  Both of these teams are leading their respected divisions and are two of the top offensive powerhouses in the National League. This is the first series between the Nationals and Brewers this year.

Brewers Are The Kings Of Long Ball In 2017

The Milwaukee Brewers are in first place in the National League Central, in a heated battle with the Chicago Cubs.  The Brewers are 53-48 and have struggled over their last 10 games going 3-7. The Brewers have capitalized on playing long ball this year, leading the National League in Home Runs with 148.

Their top offensive weapon is first basemen/outfielder Eric Thames.  Thames has hit 23 home runs and has scored 60 runs this year for the Brewers.  The Brewers have been in negotiations heading into the trade deadline to obtain infielder Ian Kinsler from the Detroit Tigers.

Nationals Tough At Nationals Park

The Washington Nationals have pretty much ruled the National League East Division for the entire season.  They are currently 12 games ahead in first place of the Atlanta Braves.  The Nationals have gone 8-2 in their last 10 games and are on a 2 game winning streak.

The Nationals, like the Brewers, have been an offensive powerhouse this year.  They lead the National League in team Batting Average and also in Runs Scored. The Nationals are 3rd in the National League in Home Runs, only 4 behind the leading Milwaukee Brewers. They are led across the board by MVP Candidate and potential Triple Crown Contender, Bryce Harper.  Harper has hit 24 home runs, is batting .337 and has 73 RBI’s.  Harper also leads the team in Runs Scored, On Base % and Slugging %.

Nationals Win At Home

This series could very easily end up being a preview of the NL Championship Series.  The Nationals will get the benefit of playing at home, where they are 26-19 this year.  The Nationals will be taking on the Brewers, who are only 25-24 on the road, respectable but nothing to write home about.  The Brewers have the Cubs putting pressure on them and I think the Nationals take game 1 of this series.  I got the Nationals winning this game for 2.5 Units

Pick: Washington Nationals -135 for 2.5 Units
