The Cincinnati Reds will head to the Nation’s Capital to take on the Washington Nationals for the first time this season.

Castillo Makes MLB Debut For Reds On Friday

The Cincinnati Reds are 30-41 and are in last place by 8 games in the National League Central Division.  They have lost 2 straight games and have gone 1-9 in their last 10 games overall.  The Reds are 5-4 against teams from the National League East Division.

Luis Castillo will make his major league debut on Friday.  Castillo was recently called up from Double-A Pensacola, where he put together a 2.58 ERA over 80.1 innings.  Castillo is one of the Reds top prospects and will be making his debut against one of the league’s top offenses.

Nationals Look To Get Back On Winning Track At Home vs. Rookie Pitcher

The Washington Nationals are 43-29 and coming into this game off a loss to the Miami Marlins in a game where Max Scherzer only allowed 2 hits.  The Nationals are in first place in the National League East Division by 9 games over the Atlanta Braves.  The Nationals have gone 5-5 in their last 10 games overall and are 3-3 against teams from the National League Central Division. The Nationals have a +76 run differential this year, which is 3rd best in the National League.

Stephen Strasburg will make his 15th start of the year against the young rookie on Friday.  Strasburg is 8-2 on the year with a 3.28 ERA.  He has pitched in 90.2 innings and has allowed 73 hits and 33 earned runs.  Strasburg has struck out 104 batters and only walked 25.  Strasburg got a win in his last start but gave up 6 hits and 2 runs against the Mets.

Rookie Struggles Against Nationals Big Bats

I think Luis Castillo is definitely someone to keep an eye on but making your debut, on the road, against one of the National Leagues top offense is tough on the most experienced pitchers.  He is going to struggle in this game early and I anticipate the Nationals will knock him out of the game by the second time around the lineup. I hate the odds but I love the play!  Go with the Nationals for 2.5 Units.

Pick: Washington Nationals -250 for 2.5 Units
