Two teams out of the National League Central will mix it up in the middle game of a three game series. The Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs will meet at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The Cubs won the first game of the series, and are now 43-43 on the season. The Cubs are in second place in the National League Central.

For the Pittsburgh Pirates, following their loss on Friday, they are now 40-47 on the season. The Pirates are in fourth place in the National League Central, behind the Brewers, Cubs and Cardinals. The Chicago Cubs are big favorites in this game on Saturday. The Chicago Cubs are listed at -175 over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Chicago With just One All Star

A year after winning the World Series, the Chicago Cubs have just one All Star in the 2017 game. Closer Wade Davis gets the nod, and not a single offensive player makes it for Chicago. Kris Bryant lost the final vote, and then came out Friday and blasted two homeruns in the game.

The Cubs have one of the worst batting averages in all of Major League Baseball. Chicago is hitting .239, led by Kris Bryant, and his .271. Anthony Rizzo leads the team in homeruns and RBI’s with 20 and 56. Chicago has a team earned run average of 4.12 on the season, and their starting pitchers have 34 quality starts.

Pittsburgh Floundering in 2017

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been floundering under .500 all season under manager Clint Hurdle. The Pirates had their three game winning streak snapped with the 6-1 loss in Chicago. The Pirates are 25th in runs scored, with just 359, and they are batting .241 as a team.

Andrew McCutchen is the leading offensive threat for the Pirates. The former All Star is having a pretty good season, as he leads with a .295 batting average, along with 16 homeruns and 49 runs batted in. The Pirates pitching ranks 13th with a 4.21 ERA and they have thrown 41 quality starts.

Cubs Seeking Two in a Row

One thing the Chicago Cubs have been unable to do often this season is put two wins together. The Cubs are looking for their second straight, with Jake Arrieta on the mound. The former Cy Young winner is 8-6 on the season, with a 4.33 earned run average. Arrieta has thrown 95.2 innings, and struck out 99 batters.

On the other side, the best starting pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates is on the mound. Ivan Nova has been the most impressive, with an 8-6 record as well. Nova has an ERA of 3.24 on the season. In 114 innings thrown, Nova has struck out just 61 batters, but walked just 14. The Chicago Cubs will use a great outing from Arrieta. Bet the Cubs -175 over the Pirates.
