The Yankees and Cubs will square off in Game 2 of a 3 game interleague set on Saturday night. In Game 1, the Yankees defeated the Cubs by the score of 3-2, posting 11 hits and 3 runs, with a decent pitching performance from starter Michael Pineda. Pineda held the Cubs to 3 hits and 2 earned runs in 6 innings, while striking out 6 batters and walking 1. The Cubs were winning the game, pitching a shutout heading into the 9th inning but the Yankees put two batters on the bases and Brett Gardner cleared the bases with a 2 out, 3 run homerun to beat the Cubs.

Yankees May Be Rebuilding But Ready To Contend!

The New York Yankees are 18-9 overall and are in 1st place in the American League East. The Yankees have the 2nd best team batting average in the American League hitting .273 as a team. They lead the American League in runs scored and home runs.

Jordan Montgomery will start for the Yankees on Saturday night against the defending World Champions. Montgomery is 1-1 on the year in 4 games started, with a 4.15 ERA. Montgomery has pitched a total of 21.2 innings and has only allowed 22 hits and 2 home runs. He has struck out 23 batters and walked 10. In his last game, he received a no-decision against the Baltimore Orioles. In that game, he allowed 3 runs on 3 hits, struck out 7 and walked 4 batters in five innings.

At the start of the year, the Yankees were considered to be in a rebuilding phase of the team but they have quickly shown that even with a younger team, they can compete with the best that the American League has to offer. They have gone 7-3 in their last 10 games overall, sweeping the Boston Red Sox 2-0, winning the series with the Baltimore Orioles 2-1 and winning the series with the Toronto Blue Jays 2-1.

Cubs Seek Immediate Redemption Off Blown Save vs. Yankees

The Chicago Cubs are 16-13 overall and are in 1st place in the National League Central Division. The Cubs can NOT be happy with the way the game ended against the Yankees on Friday. They had the game basically in control and put Hector Rendon in to get the save. It went south from there with Gardner hitting the three-run homer to win the game.

Brett Anderson will make the start for the Cubs against the Yankees. Anderson is 2-1 on the year with a 6.23 ERA. He has pitched in 21.2 innings over 5 games started. Anderson has struck out 15 batters while walking 12.

Cubs Win At Wrigley On Saturday!

There definitely is an emotional factor to losing a game like the Cubs did yesterday and they will be amped up to get revenge on the Yankees. The Cubs are a much better offensive team than they have shown lately and I look for them to be able to hit Montgomery and get the win here at home.
