MLB Betting Preview: Texas Rangers vs. Seattle Mariners- June 14th, 2014

The Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners are set to get game two of their series underway, and it’s probably not crazy to say that we don’t expect to see this game end up with a 1-0 scoreline like the first game of the series did. The Rangers were able to score the only run of the game in the 9th inning yesterday as they beat Felix Hernandez and had four of their six hits at the end of the games. Tonights game is definitely going to have a different feel, as we’ve seen two pitchers struggle and they’ll be squaring off for their respective sides. While the two pitchers haven’t been great, there are some interesting stats surrounding them. This game is set to get underway at 10:10pm EST tonight.

The Rangers are going to be sending Joe Saunders to the mound, and while he’s gone just 0-2 with a 3.60 ERA this season, he’s dominated the Mariners throughout his career. In total he’s managed a record of 8-1 with a 3.52 ERA over 15 starts against this team. While the Rangers squeaked out a close game yesterday, it was the fourth loss in a row for the Mariners, and we saw catcher Mike Zunino get two hits off of the Rangers, and they were the only two hits of the game for the team.

On the other side, the Mariners are sending Erasmo Ramirez, who has gone 1-4 with a 5.97 ERA this season, and has definitely struggled quite a bit. We’ve seen Ramirez pitch five or fewer innings in five of his eight starts this season. His last game though he didn’t give up a run in 4 2/3 innings, but was still pulled after giving up four hits and walking five batters. The struggles by Ramirez are well documented and definitely have to leave Mariners fans worried that they may be extending this losing streak tonight.

Saunders may be struggling, but at Safeco Field he’s gone 6-0 in nine starts against the Mariners. He was pitching for the Mariners last season though, and wasn’t great there oddly enough. It seems that he likes to do his best to try and get a little bit of revenge on his old team. This is a tough game to call, and the Mariners are actually favorites with odds of -112, while the Rangers are +104. I’m rolling with the Rangers, and I believe that pitching will end up being the difference in this game.
