MLB Betting Preview: Texas Rangers vs. Oakland Athletics- June 16th, 2014

We have a loaded card of action in Major League Baseball on Monday night, and one game that has to catch your eye is the match-up between the Texas Rangers and the Oakland Athletics. This has been an interesting series to this point throughout the year, as the two sides have played in two different three game series’ and the road team has swept each series. Texas is going to try to keep things going in that direction in this series, as they head to Oakland. Back in the first series the Rangers won three close games, but then a week later the A’s got their revenge by dominating the next series with the Rangers by a combined score of 25-4. This game starts tonight at 10:05pm EST.

For the Rangers, they saw a three game winning streak come to an end on Sunday, and they also fell to just under .500 at 34-35 as well when they lost to the Seattle Mariners 5-1. In this game they’ll be sending Colby Lewis to start out the series on the mound, and he has a 4-4 record with a 5.74 ERA. Lewis hasn’t been great in his last three starts, and has posted just an 0-1 record while giving up 14 runs and 23 hits. Lewis needs to right the ship now, but he’s been solid against them going 7-4 and giving up just a .213 batting average against the A’s in his career.

On the other side, the Athletics get a very strong starter taking the mound for them in Drew Pomeranz. Pomeranz has been playing great with just a 1.90 ERA, but has only a 5-3 record. Just a prime example of how his season has been going is that he’s given up a total of three runs in his last two games but has an 0-1 record in those games. Pomeranz has been great at home this season, going 4-0 and allowing an opponent batting average of just .134. The Athletics definitely get the edge in pitching, but they’ll need to get the run support to win tonight.

The Athletics simply get the edge here from pitching. I know that the road team hasn’t gotten the best of the series between these two sides, but it’ll be different in this game. The A’s post odds of -165 to win this one, and I believe that they get the job done on their home field. Pomeranz will get some run support and it’ll be enough to win an interesting game.
