MLB Betting Preview: Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels- June 21st, 2014

The Los Angeles Angels are attempting to try and win this series against the Texas Rangers tonight, as they are set for game two of their three game series. This is the second game of the series, and the Angels were able to win game one of the series with an impressive 7-3 win. They head into this series after a 2-4 road trip, and it was Garrett Richards who led the charge with some solid pitching in game one. This was a solid win for the Angels, as the Rangers had simply had their number recently. The Angels have only won three of eight and six of 23 previous meetings against the Rangers dating back to the beginning of last season. This game will get underway late at 10:05pm EST tonight.

The Rangers are trying to figure out their issues and get things going back in the right direction. They’ve lost eight of their last 12 games overall, and in their last three losses they’ve been outscored by a total of 21-11. They started out this nine game road trip that they are currently on by winning three of four, but it’s taken a turn for the worst. The Rangers are sending Nick Martinez to the mound tonight, who has a 1-4 record with a 4.44 ERA on the year. He’s given up four or more runs in each of his last three outings after two strong starts before that point. He’s only pitched against the Angels one time in his career, and it was in a relief effort.

The Angels on the other side are sending Jered Weaver to the mound, who has a a 7-6 record and a 3.67 ERA. He has struggled as of late though, and he’s lost three of his last four starts. In each of those losses he’s given up at least four runs, and he’s had some issues in the month of June as well. This month alone he’s gone 1-3 with a 5.79 ERA, after going 4-1 with a 1.98 ERA back in May. He’s done well against the Rangers in his career though, posting a 13-8 record and a 3.66 ERA through 32 starts.

The Angels get the edge here thanks to their pitching, and I think it’ll be a pretty big difference between the two. The Rangers have had the edge in the past, but I believe the Angels get it done tonight, even though the odds aren’t great. The Angels are -194 favorites, and I’m still going to be rolling with them to get the win.
