MLB Betting Preview: St. Louis Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers- June 28th, 2014

The St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers have been in the midst of an interesting series so far, but it’s not because of the two sides’ loaded up offenses by any means. These two teams have struggled to get things going to this point, and it’s been the pitching that has dominated. This is game three of the four game series, and the Dodgers are trying to grab control of the series on their home field. In total, we’ve seen the two sides score five runs in two games to this point against each other. The first game started with a 1-0 win for the Dodgers, while the Cardinals’ bullpen held them to a 3-1 win on Friday. This loss for the Dodgers was only their third in the last 11 games. This game will get underway at 7:15pm EST on Saturday.

The Cardinals are sending Lance Lynn to the mound, and he has an 8-5 record on the year, but even more impressive is his 2.90 ERA on the year. Lynn has held teams scoreless in three of his last six starts, and the last game was one of those against the Rockies. He gave up only three hits and no walks in that game, and we’ve seen him put up some solid numbers across the board this season. Last year in the playoffs he faced the Dodgers twice, and got two wins while giving up just two runs in 7 1/3 innings pitched.

On the other side of things, it’s the incredibly talented Zack Greinke taking the mound for the Dodgers. Greinke has a 9-4 record with a 2.89 ERA on the year as well. This is a team who has given up an average of 2.2 runs per game in the 11 game hot streak that they’ve been on. Greinke did suffer a tough one against his old team on Monday, and he gave up five runs on 11 hits when playing at the Royals. It’s actually the second time this months lone that he’s given up 11 hits in a start, and he’s gone just 1-3 through the month of June.

Interesting game here, and I expect to see the Dodgers grab control of this series, especially with Greinke leading the way. They are pretty big favorites here of -140 though, so you have to lay the odds in order to take them tonight. I think they get it done though, and I’ll deal with the odds to go with Los Angeles tonight.
