MLB Betting Preview: Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Los Angeles Dodgers- June 1st, 2014

Sunday Night Baseball is ready to roll with two interesting teams in the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers are trying to grab a split of the four game series against the Pirates though, as Pittsburgh has played them strong in this series. Currently the Dodgers have the momentum though, turning it around after losing the first two, as they won yesterdays match-up by a score of 12-2 and their offense finally got going. Hanley Ramirez has been on fire recently, as he’s had six hits in a row over the last two games, and on Saturday he lit it up with two home runs and five RBIs. This game is set to get going on Sunday at 8:07pm EST.

This was the largest margin that the Pirates have lost by, but we did see Jordy Mercer end a 0-20 run with two hits.  The Pirates are sending Edinson Volquez to the mound, who has a 2-4 record and a 4.30 ERA this season. He’s going to have a tough spot though, as the Dodgers look as though they may have their offense rolling once again. Volquez hasn’t been very good on the road, as he’s gone 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA, which is bad news as he gets his start against the 30-27 Dodgers.

The Dodgers on the other side are in a great spot here, as they are sending Zack Greinke to the mound, who is 8-1 this season with a 2.18 ERA. If you want to feel even better about the Dodgers spot, then look at the fact that since he’s come to the Dodgers last season that the team has gone 30-9 in his starts. He also had a hot streak that just came to an end where he had given up two or fewer runs in 22 straight games. He gave up three runs on Tuesday, which is where the streak ended.

It’ll be a fun game to watch, and while I think the Pirates are really going to get up for this prime time game against a strong team, it worries me about how good the Dodgers looked yesterday. They are big favorites with odds of -165 on most sports betting sites, and while that’s a big favorite, I believe it’s warranted with the Dodgers. The Pirates are in for a tough one, and the pitching mismatch is going to play a role as well. I’m going to be rolling with the Dodgers in a game where I think their offense is strong, and Greinke pitches well once again.
