MLB Betting Preview: Oakland Athletics vs. Seattle Mariners- July 12th, 2014

The Seattle Mariners are in the midst of trying to keep the strong play against the Oakland Athletics going, but it’s not going to be easy to have continued success against the top team in all of baseball currently (at least in terms of record). The Mariners got a go-ahead RBI from Robinson Cano to win 3-2 last night, and Cano has been on an absolute tear for his team recently. To this point in their regular season, the Mariners have won six of 11 games against the A’s, whose loss last game was just their second in nine games. This game is going to get underway at 10:10pm EST, and will be played once again in Seattle.

The A’s have the best record in all of baseball, and tonight they are going to be sending Jesse Chavez to the mound. Chavez has a 7-5 record with a 3.06 ERA this season. He had been struggling since back on June 15th, but got his first win since that point in his last game against San Francisco, giving up just four hits and striking out nine batters in a 5-0 victory. He’s only given up a grand total of nine home runs in 109 innings this season, which is obviously a massive strength of his. In terms of his play against the Rangers, he’s had one very good start and one very poor start to this point.

The Mariners on the other side are going to be sending Hisashi Iwakuma to the mound. He has a 7-4 record with a 3.07 ERA, and has had back to back impressive starts after two terrible starts before that.  His most recent game saw him strike out 10 batters in a 2-0 win. Throughout his career he’s gone 3-4 against the A’s, and has yet to play them this season. His control is excellent as well, as he’s given up just eight walks in 88 innings so far.

The Athletics come into this game as small underdogs, with odds of +102, and I simply think that this is a spot where they get things turned around against the Mariners. Seattle hasp layer very well against the A’s this season, but I do believe that Oakland is able to right the ship tonight and get a key win. It’ll be a close game, but I’m taking the Athletics and I’ll take the odds that come along with them as well. Look for Chavez to pitch a very nice game tonight for the road team.
