MLB Betting Preview: Oakland Athletics vs. Detroit Tigers- June 30th, 2014

The Oakland Athletics are currently sitting at the top of all of Major League Baseball with their 51-30 record. They are going to try to keep it going against a strong Detroit Tigers team on the road, with a three game series that starts tonight. The A’s are in the midst of a long road trip, and they started off their eight-game trip with a tough loss to the New York Mets before winning four straight games. They just recently swept the Miami Marlins as well, giving them their 11th win in 14 games at the end of that series. The Tigers have been impressive themselves this year, going 44-34, and they are looking to prove that they are right there with some of the best teams in all of baseball. The last time these two sides met was when they split a four game series in May. This game gets underway at 7:08pm EST tonight.

The Athletics are going to be sending Scott Kazmir to the mound tonight, who has a 9-3 record with a 2.66 ERA on the year. He just recently had a four game winning streak that came to an end when he lost to New York on Tuesday. Before this last game he had given up five earned runs total in five starts, but last game he gave up seven runs and eight hits through only three innings. Kazmir holds a 5-5 record against the Tigers in his career, and in the last game against them he gave up only one run and struck out eight.

The Tigers are currently sitting at the top of the AL Central, and they finished up a nine game road trip with a strong 7-2 record. They dropped a game to the Houston Astros by a score of 6-4, and lost two of three games in that series. Tonight, they are going to be sending Anibal Sanchez to the mound, who has a 5-2 record and a 2.64 ERA on the year. Sanchez has gone unbeaten in his last nine starts, but in his most recent game against the Rangers he gave up four runs in 5 1/3 innings. In his first 12 outings this season he’s given up three earned runs or fewer, and hasn’t lost a game since April 21st. He’s gone just 1-1 against the A’s in his career.

Very interesting game here, with two strong pitchers, but I’m going to give the edge to Sanchez here. He’s playing great baseball and the Tigers are at home. I’m taking Detroit tonight with odds of -125.
