MLB Betting Preview: New York Mets vs. San Diego Padres- June 19th, 2014

The New York Mets are looking to keep things rolling along, and they are currently in game two of the three game series against the San Diego Padres. The Mets finished the first half of the season by going 8-2, and kept it going by winning 5-4 against the Padres yesterday. It was a big win to get their second half going in the right direction, and it was definitely one that they had to pull out in the end, as they were actually up 4-0 early on. They’ve been having some key players step up from all over the place, and now they want to make a push towards the postseason potentially, but in order for that to happen they’ll have to play excellent baseball in the second half of the season. This series is going to be a good one, and tonights game gets underway at 8:40pm EST.

The Mets are going to be sending Dillon Gee to the mound, who has been excellent after his two month absence due to an injury. He gave up one run and six hits back on July 9th, and before the injury he was 3-1, showing that he definitely has some great stuff going this season. Overall, he’s 4-1 with a 2.56 ERA on the year, and he’s done well against the Padres also. To this point, Gee is 2-1 in his career with a 1.35 ERA, and has given up only three runs in 20 innings. The Mets couldn’t ask for anyone else to be on the mound tonight.

For the Padres, it’s been a tough run, as they’ve lost eight of ten games now. They got some offense finally though, but things aren’t looking great as the team traded away their All-Star closer yesterday in Huston Street. For the Padres, they are sending Tyson Ross to the mound, who has a 7-10 record with a 2.85 ERA on the year. Ross hasn’t gotten much run support this season though, as he lost a tough one 1-0 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 14 games this season he’s given up three or fewer runs, but is just 6-6 in those games. He’s received two or fewer runs of support in 11 games, which is just brutal.

The edge in this one goes to the New York Mets, and I’m giving it in large part thanks to Gee being on the mound. I really like his stuff and I think he’ll get the job done for them tonight. They are +118, and I’ll take the odds.
