MLB Betting Preview: Miami Marlins vs. St. Louis Cardinals- July 5th, 2014

The Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals will get together at Busch Stadium on Saturday afternoon. St. Louis won the first game of a three game series behind a great outing from Lance Lynn. Miami comes into the game with a 41-45 record, just 6.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the National League East. The Marlins have lost two straight and have won just 14 of 37 on the road. For St. Louis, they won their third straight Friday night. The win coupled with a Milwaukee loss put the Cardinals now just four games behind the Brewers. St. Louis has won 24 of 41 games at home during the first half of the season.

The St. Louis Cardinals would love to ride their hot streak and push the NL Central race closer once the All Star break gets here. Lance Lynn picked up his 9th win, despite some excitement in the 9th inning in the win last night. Shelby Miller is pitching on Saturday and in need of a win. Miller has lost his last two decisions and his not recorded a win in his last four outings. Miller’s ERA has ballooned to 4.10 after allowing 13 earned runs in his last 3 starts. Offensively for the Cardinals Matt Adams and Jhonny Peralta seem to be leading the way. Adams is batting .317, while Peralta has 12 homeruns. The Cardinals are looking to pick up the pace offensively, as they rank just 28th in all of baseball in runs scored.

The Miami Marlins are sending Andrew Heaney to the mound. The lefthander has yet to win a game in Major League Baseball. This season he is 0-3 in 3 starts. In those games, he has thrown 17 innings and allowed 16 hits and 10 earned runs. Miami has scored just 7 runs in his 3 starts. The Marlins offensively are batting .254 as a team. Casey McGehee is leading the way with a .313 batting average, while Giancarlo Stanton has blasted 21 homeruns, 62 runs batted in and 60 runs scored. The Marlins have allowed 371 runs and scored 370 on the season.

We really like Lance Lynn at home. St. Louis has played well the last couple games, while the Marlins are not a great road team. Look for Shelby Miller to nearly match the output that Lance Lynn put together on Friday. The St. Louis offense will get some good swings off the Miami pitching staff and come away with a win. We really like the Cardinals in this one, and are going to take the St. Louis Cardinals -135 as our bet of the night.
