MLB Betting Preview: Kansas City Royals vs. Los Angeles Angels- May 24th, 2014

The Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Angels are set to square off on Saturday night, and while Game 1 of the series didn’t go quite how the Royals wanted it to, they are looking to turn it around in Game 2. The Royals were beaten 6-1 in the first game of the series, and they’ve been struggling as of late, either getting zero or one runs in four of their last eight games. They’ll need to find some hitting on Saturday night though if they want to beat an Angels team who’s been playing strong baseball as of late. This game starts at 7:15pm EST on Saturday.

The Angels have had four different three-game win streaks this season, and they’re on one right now also. They haven’t been able to extend the win streak to four at any point yet though, so they’re trying to do that for the first time in 2014 against the Royals tonight. They are playing great lately, winning 11 of their last 14 games as well, and have allowed just five runs in their last three games. They’re sending Matt Shoemaker to the mound, who has a 2-1 record and a 3.06 ERA this season. Since being brought into the starting lineup he’s given up a total of three runs and only five hits through 11 innings.

For the Royals, they’ll be sending James Shields to the mound, and Shields has been very strong this year. He’s posted a 6-3 record and a 2.67 ERA throughout the year. He’s also grabbed three straight wins and has gone seven innings in each of those games. The Royals are just 23-24 this season though, so they need more production like what Shields has been giving from the rest of their starters, and they need to make sure that the hitting can step up to help out as well.

The Angels are an incredibly hot team right now, and it’s very tough betting against a team who’s on that type of winning streak. They are up against Shields though, who has shut down potential at times. For the Angels, the fact that they are at home and are really playing great as of late I think is going to end up being the difference. They are small betting favorites at -106 in a game that’s incredibly tough to call. I’ll eat the odds with the Angels in this game, but I do think it comes down to it and ends up being a one run game.
