MLB Betting Preview: Detroit Tigers vs. Texas Rangers- June 26th, 2014

The Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers have had some great games, and after a fun one last night, they’ll continue their series tonight. The Tigers’ bounce back since giving up the lead in the AL Central has been impressive, as they’ve won six straight games going into the finale of this three game series against the Rangers. Detroit has scored 37 runs in the first five games of their road trip, and now have a four-game lead in the division. The Rangers on the other side are in the midst of a downswing and can’t seem to slow it down. They’ve lost seven straight games and are now seven games below .500 for the first time since 2008. It’s a brutal stretch for the Rangers, but they want to see it end tonight against this strong Tigers’ team. This game gets underway at 8:05pm EST and it’ll be aired on ESPN2.

The Tigers have played great, and they are sending a strong starter in Rick Porcello to the mound tonight with a 9-4 record and a 3.76 ERA. He had a three game drought going into his last game before he shut down the Cleveland Indians, allowing zero runs on only six hits through six innings. This is the sixth straight year that he’s been right there at the 10 win mark, and he could get to that point tonight. The Rangers have had his number recently though, as he’s 3-4 with a 7.41 ERA in his career against them.

The other side will feature Nick Martinez heading to the mound, who’s had his own issues on the mound recently. Not only does he have a 1-4 record with a 4.22 ERA this season, but he’s gone 0-3 in his last five starts. He had a solid performance against the Angels though, as he gave up just two runs and three hits in seven innings. A large part of his struggle in his five-start winless drought has been his inability to keep the ball in the park, as he’s given up six home runs in the past five games. He actually beat Porcello and the Tigers last month, giving up only one run in six innings.

Consensus

The Tigers have the edge in terms of momentum, and with the stronger pitcher going to the mound I think that we see them get the job done in a game that’ll be closer than most expect. This game should come down to it, but I’m still taking the Tigers with the odds of -115 to get the win.
