MLB Betting Preview: Detroit Tigers vs. Kansas City Royals- July 11th, 2014

The Detroit Tigers come into this game against the Kansas City Royals looking to extend their lead in the American League Central. They are in the midst of a four game series, and the Tigers have had the Royals’ number on the road though, as they’ve won four straight in Kansas City, and have outscored them by a total of 42-12 during that run. Both teams are dealing with some injury issues currently, and they can’t wait for the All-Star game to roll around so that their teams can get some time off. This game should be a great one though, as we have two pitchers who can really keep the run totals down. This game gets underway tonight at 8:10pm EST, and will be a fun one to watch.

We’ll start with the Tigers, who are going to be sending out the talented Anibal Sanchez, who has a 5-3 record with a 3.18 ERA on the year. Sanchez has to bounce back after a rough outing last game agains the Tampa Bay Rays when he gave up seven runs and four walks in less than six innings. In six starts last month alone he went 3-0 with a 2.79 ERA. Throughout his career, Sanchez has gone 4-2 with a 1.04 ERA in six starts.

The Royals are entering this game with Danny Duffy taking the mound, and he’s had an interesting stretch lately. He went through six starts in June with an incredibly impressive 1.69 ERA during the month. To start July though, he had a tough game agains the Indians giving up four runs and 10 hits in just six innings. These two pitchers faced off back on June 19th, but Sanchez got the win, as Duffy only gave up two runs in seven innings in a 2-1 loss. Duffy has struggled throughout his career against the Tigers, going just 1-5 with a 3.68 ERA.

This is going to be a tough game to call, as both teams have a lot to play for, but I’m going to give the edge to the pitching here, which in my opinion is Anibal Sanchez. Sanchez has been very good, and while he had a rough outing last game, he’s the type of pitcher that will turn things around and get it going in the right direction once again. The odds on the Tigers aren’t bad at -119, plus they’ve been excellent when playing in Kansas City, which just gives them an edge in this match-up.
