MLB Betting Preview: Cleveland Indians vs. Kansas City Royals- July 24th, 2014

The Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals are starting off a huge four game series, and it’s got the potential to be an excellent series to watch. The Indians are in the midst of an 11-game road trip, while the Royals are hitting a major downswing that’s really hurt. These two are trying to stay within reach of the Detroit Tigers for the top of the American League Central, and that’s one of the reasons why this series is so huge. While the Royals had gone 1-7 in a tough stretch, they’ve won two in a row to stay seven back of the Tigers, while the Indians are 6.5 back of the Tigers since they just dropped two of three to the Twins. Both teams need this series, and need to take it in a commanding fashion. This series gets underway tonight at 8:10pm EST, and the series will be played in Kansas City.

For the Indians, they’ll need Corey Kluber to keep his hot streak going tonight. He’s 10-6 on the year with a 2.95 ERA, but he’s won three in a row and four of five games. He also struck out 10 batters for the second time in three games, and he’s been incredibly impressive as of late. Kluber will be huge tonight, and he could be the key reason why the Indians are able to get this series going the right direction. He’s been strong against the Royals in his career, posting a 4-1 record, and opposing batters on the Royals have only been able to manage a batting average of .222 against him.

On the other side, it’ll be Danny Duffy taking the mound for the Royals, and he’s been on the side of some bad luck this year. He may have a 5-10 record overall, but his ERA this season is just 2.66. He’s lost three games in a row, and five of six games, but it hasn’t been in the way that you’d expect. He gave up just two runs in 6 2/3 innings against the Red Sox on Saturday, and in total he’s given up 12 runs and 32 hits over his last 37 1/3 innings. Against the Indians specifically he’s gone 1-1 while giving up four runs and 10 hits back on July 6th against them.

What a big game we have here, and an even bigger series. For the Indians, I think they are able to rally around the strong pitching of Kluber as of late to get the win. The Royals’ lack of hitting worries me, and I’m going to take the Indians at -110 tonight.
