MLB Betting Preview: Atlanta Braves vs. Los Angeles Dodgers- July 29th, 2014

The Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers are set to square off in Los Angeles, and both of these teams are playing great baseball right now, as they are both in the midst of three game winning streaks. This opening game of their three game series should be a great one, and thanks to the hot run from the Braves, they are just a half game behind the Washington Nationals in the National League East. Right out of the gate, the Dodgers started the second half off 2-4, and fell into second place in the National League West, but their three straight wins have gotten them back ahead of the San Francisco Giants for first place. These two teams haven’t met since the Dodgers knocked out the Braves from the playoffs last year. This game gets underway at 10:10pm EST, and the series is in Los Angeles.

The Braves are going to look to keep their streak going with Aaron Harang taking the mound, who has a 9-6 record and a 3.31 ERA on the season thus far. He’s looking for his 120th win of his career tonight, and he’s also trying to get to the 10th win in a season for the seventh time through his 13 seasonsin the majors. Through his last six starts he’s been great, going 4-0 with a  2.20 ERA. He has struggled when pitching at Dodger Stadium though, with a record of just 3-8 and a 3.80 ERA.

The other side is going to see the Dodgers sending Josh Beckett to the mound. Beckett has had a rough outing this month, as he’s given up nine runs in 13 2/3 innings. In his game against the Pirates last Tuesday (his first since coming off of the disabled list), he gave up four runs in under four innings. He may be struggling as of late, and have just a 1-4 home record this season, but he’s been great against the Braves. In 17 games against the Braves he has a 2.07 ERA, making this one even more interesting. He takes his 6-5 record and 2.52 ERA into this series.

Consensus

With the Dodgers just grabbing back first place in the division, they aren’t trying to give up ground tonight. It’s a tough match-up, but I think the fact that they are at home will definitely play a role. It’s going to be a close one, but I also think that we see a strong performance from Beckett to help the Dodgers get the win. I’m betting the Dodgers with odds of -144.
