MLB Betting Odds — Dodgers and Greinke Look to Continue Success Against D-Backs

The Los Angeles Dodgers executed a three-game sweep over the Arizona Diamondbacks in their last encounter, and they are fully confident that they can get off to a good start in attempting that once again. They have a pitcher on the mound Friday night who seemed to own the D-Backs last season, and they are catching an Arizona squad that is slumping at best. MLB betting action is set to get underway at 10:10 PM ET at Dodger Stadium.

In the beginning of this three-game set, Zach Greinke will take the mound for the Dodgers. Thus far he has a record of 3-0 with a 2.76 ERA, although he has yet to go beyond six innings in any of his starts. And he allowed ten hits in 5-1/3 frames last time out. For the Diamondbacks, southpaw Wade Miley will take the mound. He has had his struggles this season, going 2-2 with a 5.04 ERA. And he has been roughed up in his experience against the Dodgers so far this season.

In the MLB betting odds that have been established on this matchup by the people at Bookmaker, the Dodgers, as could be expected, are considerable favorites at home:

Los Angeles Dodgers (Greinke – R) -182
Arizona Diamondbacks (Miley – L) +162

Under 7 Runs -125
Over 7 Runs +105

Last Saturday, Miley was banged up by Los Angeles, to say the least. He gave up five runs in five innings, including a two-run homer to Adrian Gonzalez, and in his two starts against the Dodgers this season his ERA is a bloated 7.20. In other words, on the surface he does not look like someone who offers the best matchup possible for Arizona.

MLB Baseball bettors should take note that Gonzalez, whose OPS is above .900, is on a 12-game hitting streak, and hit a home run in each of the three victories the Dodgers registered against the Diamondbacks last weekend. He should be joined in the lineup by Hanley Ramirez, who got hit by a pitch on Wednesday and set out again. After scoring 22 runs in their three wins over Arizona, the Dodgers’ bats were cooled off by the San Francisco pitching staff, which held Los Angeles to just five runs in winning two out of three. So obviously the D-Backs are welcome site at Dodger Stadium.

And all of this will be happening amidst a great deal of controversy involving colorful outfielder Yasiel Puig, who has been at the center of some reports this past week about alleged threats from drug smugglers who helped him get out of Cuba and who he reportedly owes money to. Puig, as many Bookmaker customers know, signed a $42 million deal with the Dodgers two years ago, and made his major league debut last season, developing great fanfare very quickly. Parts of the story broke this week, through testimony of a boxer who defected from Cuba along with Puig, and it is somewhat difficult for it not to be a distraction for the Dodgers, who are supposed to be putting Puig in the lineup tonight. .

Greinke has a 1.78 ERA in his last four starts against Arizona, which has lost six games in a row overall. Kirk Gibson’s team got started badly in Australia and the season-opening series against the Dodgers, and has never gotten on track. At 4-14, they are in last place in the National League West, and also, statistically speaking, have the worst pitching staff in the majors, with a 6.02 ERA collectively.

Greinke has the luxury of a bullpen that is deep, so it is no big surprise, and perhaps no alarm, that he has not stayed in that long. He has struck out 21 hitters in 16-1/3 innings, so he is sharp while he’s in there. And the D-Backs hit just .149 against him last year.

This may be one of those circumstances where we can access the run line at Bookmaker to make our MLB baseball pick. Rather than lay the -182 price, let’s grab +120 with Greinke and the Dodgers -1.5 runs, looking for the D-Backs to continue struggling to score, while Los Angeles will hopefully benefit from Ramirez and Puig back in the lineup.

One thing you can count on finding at Bookmaker is the sharpest line available. After all, this is where it all originates!
