MLB Betting: Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers- July 10th, 2014

The Los Angeles Angels have been playing some strong baseball recently and are looking to keep a push to try to catch the Oakland A’s in the American League West. They are getting set to open up a road series against the Texas Rangers, who have been struggling lately. The Angels are in the midst of a hot stretch that has seen them win 15 of their last 19 games, and they have the second best record in all of Major League Baseball. The Rangers on the other side, badly need to get things turned around, as they’ve lost four in a row and 10 of 11 games. If you want a shocker, they currently have the worst record in all of baseball. This game will get underway at 8:05pm EST, and is going to be hosted by the Rangers.

If there’s one good bit of news going for the Rangers, it’s that the Angels are sending Hector Santiago, who may have a 4.50 ERA on the year, but is winless, going 0-7 overall. Santiago badly wants to get off of the winless hump, and he’s gone from being in the bullpen to back as a starter for at least one game, since Matt Shoemaker had to relieve Jered Weaver on Monday after only two innings. Santiago has struggled, and in his last game against the Rangers he gave up five runs and seven hits in six innings on May 2nd.

For the Rangers, they just recently were swept by the team who had the worst record in baseball before the series in the Houston Astros. Back on June 16th the Rangers were at .500, but have gone 3-18 since that point, including a three-game sweep at the hands of this Angels team. The Rangers are sending out Colby Lewis to the mound tonight, who is 6-5 with a 5.51 ERA on the year. He’s had two solid starts in a row for the first time this season, giving up just two earned runs and three total runs in his last game, and getting a no decision in the game before that while giving up only two runs.

The real issue here is the fact that the Rangers are struggling to hit the ball right now it seems. I do think they’ll get some runs off of the Angels, but not nearly enough to win this game. I think the Angels get the job done, and I’m taking the road team here with the odds of -124.
